We are gearing up for a huge holiday shopping weekend! We will be open until 4pm today and then closing to spend Thanksgiving with family! Our first outdoor market running a generator for our Patch Bar. It was one of the hardest market ever to setup for with 30 mph wind gusts and hundreds of vendors and thousands of people. I learned lessons, worked my butt off, met so many new people, secured group orders, and made new connections with schools and sports teams that are invaluable. Ready to get the store back in order for some crazy shopping days this week!

Our next phase of helping our neighbors is helping one of our own vendors here at The Palmetto Market! All proceeds from the sales of the 4 items in our collection will go to Bounty and Hope and Foundation Studios. Bre is an incredible artist whom I adore and would love for you guys to show up and show out!

Bounty and Soul is a community based non-profit in Black Mountain that has been providing free lovally grown produce and education in the area since 2014

Foundation Studios is a huge warehouse full of artisan stalls in the River Arts District in AVL and their entire warehouse flooded to the roof and they lost everything.

Here is Bre's account in her own words:

I woke on September 27th, 2024 at my home in Black Mountain, NC expecting to have flooding and loss of power due to the massive amounts of rain and wind projected to come with hurricane Helene. We got that, but as the day progressed we got word that it was so much worse than anyone had expected. As the next few days unfolded, I saw some of the devastation that Helene caused. Entire towns are gone. Mudslides took out houses and roads. So many businesses were destroyed. Families lost loved ones, incomes, pets, and so much more. At 10 days in, infrastructure is still a wreck. We do not know when water will return, many are still out of power, and hundreds of people are still missing. Western North Carolina will take years to recover.

This week was filled with lots of emotions. I knew I wanted to help with hurricane relief which led me to Operation AirDrop. I knew the end of the week was going to be full of prior business obligations so I went from helping at the airport to putting those emotions aside to speaking to CEOs, and a room full of business owners. It was quite the switch. I was nervous because I hadn't spent all week prepping like I usually would, this was a brand new class, and I didn't want to let anyone down.

AND I DIDN'T. I left feeling so proud because it was the best class I have taught thus far, and I found a way to do both. I then switched outfits and mindset once again and travelled to Ballantyne Country club that afternoon to set up our first ever Patch Bar! I was so nervous I couldn't pull it off on my own...

BUT I DID IT. Everyone loved having options other than hats and we made bags, and tumbler pouches, and patched lounge sets and zipper pouches all evening. I can't wait to do it again.

All that to say: I know our initial instinct is to want to help however we can, but one thing is not more important than the other. We have to be willing to do the simple things like sorting diapers, or creating a fundraiser - but everyone can't drive an atv into the woods to rescue, or a dump truck to haul debris. As much as I wanted to be there all week I had to work to pay our bills too. And you can't let yourself feel guilty because there is a way you can do both 💜

DAY - 2 Recap! Today was HOT! We have a great system now and we were putting pallets together for flights that had 450 # of supplies at a time on them. Some of the planes today could take 1000 # or more. Helicopters are ere buzzing and the line of pilots willing to fly anywhere they were told left me speechless.

✨ NEEDS :

First Aid Supplies and Lots of Benadryl. These are things we can stick anywhere on a flight and weigh very little.

Camping supplies: blankets, tarps, flash lights and sleeping bags

BABY: breast pumps and supplies, formula both regular and specialty and baby food.

SNACKS: think camping snacks like trail mix, peanuts and peanut butter, granola bars etc.

They of course will take anything but those things were used up quite a bit today!

Quick Post: I have been at Concord Regional Airport all morning with Help is on the way. We loaded small planes, jets, Apache helicopters and even a C3 with 3000 pounds of supplies. We have sent out thousands of pounds just this morning! Based on supplies at noon 10/1 today we need: baby food and formula, feminine and hygiene products, Dental products, Baby Wipes, as well as tarps, trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper.

BUT ANYTHING US WELCOME! I saw teenagers through combat veterans all pending helping hand. In this moment: love wins. We are doing the work no matter our differences. See you tomorrow!

I also wanted to show you photos of what Tangelwood looked like on Saturday. This is where our huge festival was going to be with 300 makers. So we are all scrambling to find the balance in doing what we can to help others and also finding a way to pay our bills without the sales from a major event. It's the tight rope a small business owner walks and the reality of it is we are all just trying to do the best we can ❤️
