Today marks 20 years of BOATS.

Time sure does fly by when you are having fun. I recall wonderful memories of this era. We recorded most of the album at Mission Sound in Brooklyn. However, we booked the sessions on short notice therefore could not find an apartment vacancy in Brooklyn. The only spot we could find to house us all was located in Time Square, right next to the M&M store.. the genuine New York City experience! We would commute daily on the L train to Lorimer, I remember rotating Nada Surf “Let Go” and Jim O’ Rourke “Insignificance”  almost ritually on the rides. I recall striking out trying to score a fake ID, so this 20yr old knucklehead could join his bandmates/producer at the cool NYC bars. I  vividly remember Mike answering his phone during takes and announcing “Gotta go! Having a baby!” when his first daughter arrived! It was a necessary sonic exploration for the gang, it was a line in the sand between us and the major label rat race from which we excused ourselves.
