PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS IN CLARE – UPDATE - *** LIGHTING THE BEACON IN THE PARK*** The waiting is nearly over. *** TOMORROW *** (Thursday 2 June) the beacon in Clare Castle Country Park will be lit by our special guest Mark Pendlington, Deputy Lieutenant for Suffolk. He will be lighting it on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen. The beacon will be lit at 9.45pm (at the same time as another 1,500 beacons throughout the UK and in the capital cities of the 54 Commonwealth nations). Why not come along with the whole family to the Inner Bailey from *** 7.40pm *** to enjoy a programme of events which will include a fun CADS production, formal readings, a piper and a fancy-dress parade. The programme will be poignant and respectful but also fun and upbeat, and there will hopefully be a bit of community singing if everyone is up for it! It’s all free so do come along and join us. *** PLEASE NOTE *** There will be some seating but this will be limited. If possible, please consider bringing your own fold down seats if you have them. Regards, Gary, Margaret, Sheila and Rosemary

PLATINUM JUBILEE WEEKEND IN CLARE UPDATE: The Jubilee weekend celebrations are almost upon us and the excitement is mounting! If you haven’t received an information leaflet from the Working Party yet, you should shortly be receiving one through your letterbox. It will let you know some of details of the exciting events and activities we have planned for Clare to celebrate Her Majesty’s glorious achievement in style. There is still time to SUBMIT YOUR MEMORIES of either the Accession, the Coronation or both. We don’t need you to write down too much – please write down your name if you wish (it is not essential), how old you were at the time of the Memory and where you were. Then simply jot down what you remember. It only needs to be a few sentences. We want to display these Memories in the Parish Church and then in the Town Hall over the Jubilee Weekend. They will then be kept in a Commemorative Book in the library for future generations to read and enjoy! We already have many interesting exhibits to display in the Town Hall over the Jubilee Weekend, but we would be delighted to borrow further EXHIBITS. These might include photographs of you and/or your family during at the time of the Accession or Coronation, memorabilia (have you got anything from Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee lurking in a cupboard somewhere?). If you have a Memory for us, please write them down and leave them in our box in Clare Library. If you have an exhibit that we can borrow, please ring Sheila Burry on 01787 277229.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible enjoying yourselves over the Jubilee Weekend (Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022). Regards, Gary, Sheila, Margaret and Rosemary

PLATINUM JUBILEE UPDATE – YARN BOMBING…….
Thank you once again for all of you out there who have been getting busy knitting flowers to adorn the town for the Jubilee Weekend celebrations. We are amazed by the level of support and the enthusiasm shown. We are now appealing for volunteers to join us on the following two dates to help us put up the flowers all over the town to give it a real Platinum Jubilee feel. It you can give us an hour or two of your time, please meet us in Market Hill at either 2pm on Saturday 28 May 2022 or at 11am on Sunday 29 May 2022 (or both if you are feeling particularly energetic!). Together we can make our town look even more special than it usually looks in time for the Platinum Jubilee Weekend celebrations. If you have any queries about this project, please give Sheila Burry a ring on 01787 277229.

PLATINUM JUBILEE WEEKEND CELEBRATIONS ***UPDATE *** - Flowers are steadily coming in to yarn bomb the town for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. From Wednesday 20 to Friday 29 April flowers can be left in the box in the library and there will be boxes outside 2 Westfield, 16 Clarence Road and 38 Highfield during the day to leave any completed flowers. Time is needed to string them all together ready to hang but this doesn’t stop anyone continuing to knit after this date, as they can be added.
The working party are concerned by putting them up too early might mean that by the actual four days, depending on what the weather has in store, they may not be at their best. We are, therefore delaying hanging them until the weekend before the celebrations but will leave them up for longer after Jubilee weekend. Too much work and community spirit has gone into this project to only display for a few days. If you know someone who is knitting but not on Facebook perhaps you could pass this message on with deadline dates etc. We would like to thank each and every one of you who have donated wool, knitted or crocheted flowers. Some we know of and others we don’t so we can’t name you all. Best wishes, Gary, Sheila, Margaret and Rosemary.

MEMORY BOARD PROJECT UPDATE: As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we are asking for people of a ‘certain age’ to write down their memories of either the Accession, the Coronation or, ideally, both. You don’t have to give your name but we would appreciate your age in 1952 and where you were living. All these are going to be displayed in an Exhibition in the Town Hall during the four days of celebrations. Any photos and items from the period would also be very welcome. Items should be clearly marked with your name and phone number so they can be returned to you safely. Once written, what should you do with your memories? Memories can be placed in the wool box that is in the entrance of the library until 29 APRIL 2022. After the Jubilee weekend. these memories will be made
into a scrapbook and placed in the library for future generations to read, enjoy and refer to.

Do you have a relative, neighbour or friend who doesn’t use social media? Then perhaps you could mention the project to them as they may like to
contribute?

Any further information can be obtained from Rosemary Warmington (the Exhibition Organiser) on 01787 827885, Cllr Sheila Burry (Memory Boards co-ordinator) on 01787 277229 or either of the other two Working Party members - Cllr Gary Brown on 01787 827411 or Margaret Godwin on 01787 278243). We look forward to receiving your memories. Best wishes from Gary, Sheila, Margaret and Rosemary.

PLATINUM JUBILEE IN CLARE – 2 to 5 JUNE 2022. An update on YARN BOMBING:
First, a big ‘thank you’ to those of you (and there are quite a few of you out there) who are working hard to knit flowers to decorate the town for the Jubilee. We would like all flowers in by 29 APRIL 2022 so we have time to link them together to go up in the town on 21 MAY 2022. We want people to appreciate the hard work that has gone in to making all these flowers. We will be looking for VOLUNTEERS to assist the Working Party yarn bomb the town on 21 MAY 2022 so if you think you can help, please contact Sheila Burry on 01787 277229. The more people, the less time it will take.
There will be four places in Clare to which you can deliver your completed flowers: (i) The wool box in Clare Library, (ii) to 2 Westfield, (iii) to 16, Clarence Road and (iv) to 38, Highfield, whichever is easiest for you. The working party wish to thank everyone who has taken time to help us with this project. We don’t know all your names but rest assured we are very grateful. Best wishes from Gary, Sheila, Margaret and Rosemary (the Working Party).

PLATINUM JUBILEE WEEKEND – Yarn Bombing Appeal. There has been a good deal of interest in this project, with many residents of Clare taking up yarn bombing, knitting flowers to decorate the town during the Jubilee weekend. We are appealing now for DONATIONS of wool to allow this to continue. We are looking for more wool – double knitting in red, white or blue. If you can spare any amount at all, please leave it in the box provided in Clare Library. Thank you very much indeed in anticipation of your generosity – Clare Jubilee 2022 Working Party.

PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS - Yarn bombing. In addition to the information recently posted on this Facebook site by Margaret Godwin about the arrangements to get the community interested in yarn bombing (knitting flowers to be placed all around the town during the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June) we are delighted to announce that patterns are now available from Clare Library. These are free to any member of the community who would like one. Donations of double knitting wool in red, white and blue would be very much appreciated and can be left in the box in the library.

WELCOME TO CLARE JUBILEE 2022, a page for information on Clare events to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth next year. Currently the only national event which has been publicised is the lighting of beacons on June 2nd and the Clare plans for our beacon are already progressing well. Party in the Park is confirmed for June 4th and several other suggestions for events have been put forward and are being followed up.
If you have any ideas for an event which our community might enjoy, and would like to get involved in delivering it, please post here, direct message us or send an email to [email protected]
Everyone working to put on these events for our town is a volunteer so please - be kind!
Gary Brown, Sheila Burry, Margaret Godwin and Rosemary Warmington
