Did someone say carne asada???

Order tonight & find out why we’ve got the BEST steak for your tacos 🫡

Our carne asada comes from locally sourced skirt steak. A hiss & small plume of smoke exude when it hits the grill because it’s imperative to cook high & fast. You’re going to smell this deliciousness from blocks away 🙌🏻. We marinate our skirt steak in a mojo style blend of citrus and spices. The end result? A buttery, savory, & most of all, tender bite.

You can order online on our website OR through DoorDash. We’ll be here from 5-9pm 😁

If you have an event coming up you may want to read this so you can have success finding the right food truck for your event

1. When should I contact the food truck(s) I want for my event?

As soon as you realize “oh I need a food truck”, that’s when you need to begin reaching out. Most successful food trucks will have their schedule fully booked early in the year. Think (April/May). Which is why it’s very important to submit your inquiries as early as possible because you are now competing with others to get this booked. November and December is usually when food trucks begin to cease operations, which means they have more time to focus on booking. This is your golden window of opportunity!

2. What type of event am I having?

Events are either public or private. When we do private events, we tend to expect some type of minimum in sales. Public events may include a minimum depending on sales potential. Is your event paying for the food or will the guests be paying?

3. What type of truck is appropriate?

Assuming you know which cuisine type you have in mind, or maybe you have your eyes set on a truck already… you want to make sure that the one you’re looking for can handle the amount of guests you’re expecting. When I review an event I look at the serving window (how long will I be serving), and the guest count estimate. If you have 200 people but a 1hr window, you need a FAST food truck.

4. How can I make MY event more attractive for a food truck?

You can make a food truck more inclined to your event without guaranteeing a minimum by doing a few things. Consider installing a 50amp outlet if you’re a set location and would like to feature food trucks more regularly. Have an area for trash! If you can provide a water hook up, even better. Lastly, advertise as much as you can and don’t wait until last minute.

5. Provide historical data

If this is an annual or bi-annual event, be ready to provide data so we can make a more informed decision. What trucks were there last year? How many ticket sales? Anything you can provide is helpful.

So when is the best time to reach out?
Right now!

On Sundays, we’re wheelin’ & dealin’

This Sunday bowls and nachos start at $12 when you order online through our website. This deal is not good for DoorDash orders.

Please utilize our curbside pick-up option by simply texting your name and vehicle description to 3304392777. We will bring your food to your car 🙌🏻

There has been continued confusion about pick-up location so here is a more descriptive way of finding us. Drive down Market Street until you reach W. South Street, turn right. Right after you pass Apple Creek Bank there will be a parking lot to the right. Pull into that parking lot and park outside of the loading ramp 🙂

“ I haven’t had Oma Gourd in ___ days “ 😞

Just so y’all know, me either! 😭

However, I do come bearing good news 🎉

Good news is, you won’t have to wait until next Spring to get yours!

This Winter we are resuming our dinner operations at Local Roots in Wooster. Starting Friday (this Friday) we are serving curbside and working to get some delivery options as well. Fingers crossed we have that ironed out by Friday 🤞🏻

Outlook: we do have some experimenting to do BUT, the plan is to be open Friday-Sunday all winter long from 5-9. Hours and days may change but of course you’ll remain in the loop as long as you’re following us 🙏🏻

Throwback to last year’s beautifully handcrafted menu. I so wanted this to be our forever menu but man did it take a beating 🤕

Still my all time favorite menu we’ve had made 🙌🏻

I like to hold on to old menus because in my mind, they’ll end up in an Oma Gourd HOF, or be used to share our history someday. Heck, maybe a super fan will come along and want to put it in their home 😭👀

Idk, it’s special to me.

Since we’re officially in our Oma off-season, maybe we’ll fill this time connecting a little better with posts unrelated to food?

First discussion point:

What’s a band/artist that never misses for you?

I’ll go first. I’ve been running 95% Peach Pit since their latest album drop. If I’m not listening to Peach Pit I’m probably listening to Frozen, Paw Patrol, & maybe Sheriff Callie 😂

What about you?

As I sit here on this trailer during our last pop-up of the season, I’ve many thoughts and feelings that I’m not entirely sure I have the tools to explain or expand upon.

When I started this business almost 4 years ago, there was a different type of motivation that fed the flame that led to exponential growth and success. It was, in every sense, your typical “breaking of the shackles” type of energy. & I think that really kept me going for a long time. Yet, as I sit here and type this out… those motives are long gone memories. Those shackles have been broken and I almost forget what that felt like. The same motivation that began this journey is now a memory of a feeling that has become distant.

& then there was the motivation to foster a healthy work environment and create a safe place for employees to come and learn new skills while carrying out my values and goals. But as time moved on, so too did the employees who helped build this. I am fortunate to still have some of them around & for our relationship to have evolved into family.

& in year 3, things began to change. I started to realize that Oma Gourd grew at such a rate & I was not prepared for the acclimation. In year 3 I saw the biggest decline to my own mental health. The motivation to be an incredible business owner wasn’t really enough because I started to see and feel the time that had been lost. If you didn’t know, I have a family at home that’s been growing fast with or without me & I’ve missed more than enough. So I opted to spend more of my time at home to try and find some sort of a balance, putting this and my own health on the back burner.

So now, here at the end of this season I find myself with big questions that I’m not really sure how to answer. You see, this was the first year that we kept the same menu for the entire season. We didn’t add any seasonal salsas, we hardly messed with experimental proteins and such. & despite our involvement in the community, I don’t really feel like we lived up to my standard. I simply did not have the capacity to do anything outside of what was expected & unfortunately I think that has been felt.

How do we get back to the fun, experimental, funky type of energy from before? What do we need to do to continue to climb instead of remaining in a place of complacency? Quick answer, balance. More sophisticated answer, I need to take better care of my headspace, time, and physical heath. I need more of my family and less of the problems that come with operating this business to the degree that I have. I do not know how many hours of work I put in each week because I don’t keep track. But between physical and mental work, I’m running around the clock and have been for almost 4 years.

Luckily, I am surrounded by a community that wants us to succeed & I couldn’t be more grateful for you all. Luckily, I have a team that is committed to me, my business, and my family. & luckily, I happen to be one of the most resilient people I know. There will be changes in the structure of this business, there needs to be. I just needed this season to just “be”.

I firmly believe next year will be one of growth but in ways that are healthy and sustainable.

Finally, I still have news to share with y’all, but I’m not quite ready yet as details still need to be figured out. But I do plan to make Oma Gourd available this winter, just not from the food truck. So stay tuned and we’ll get you updated as soon as possible 🙏🏻

I hate to do it but unfortunately we’ll have to close early again. This time we have sickness in the family that seems to be escalating and my presence is needed at home.

I am planning to be open Wednesday for our final day but will let you know if plans change.

Thank you for your understanding 😭🙏🏻
