Kevin Gallagher's crazy idea of hiking Pikes Peak - America's Mountain, in one day actually came true. My sister-in-law Renee Gallagher joined in on the fun. Started at 5:30am and topped the mountain around 3:50pm. Hit some rain for about 45 mins within 3 miles from the top and it got cold at one point. Yes, there was some lighting, but obviously not close enough to get us. But then the sun came back out. And no, we did not hike back down, we took the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.

FB: Can you tell us more history about Alan Jarre?
Author: Alphonse Jarre as was granted a plot of land in after the civil war by President Grant. His prominence lead to the nick name of Hwy 67 being Jarre Canyon Road, and there is a Jarre Creek. I took that basic name and used that for Alan (close enough to Alphonse. However, Alan's background it still evolving. I have a couple of ideas for going forward with him in the next stories. FB: Why aren't there any or in the story?
Author: Honestly, I could not figure out how to introduce a coin trick, and I didn't care to have a scene with them playing cards. But that is a good question because I may have to rethink how I can include them. Including them would allow for more illusions that the average person could learn and perform, and I think that would be a good thing. Besides coin and card tricks are just fun things to do at a party.

FB: Does really have 300 days of sunshine?
Author: I don't make this stuff up :-) That is the claim. I don't know how accurate it really is. According to the The Denver Post its a myth (https://www.denverpost.com/2021/08/21/300-days-of-sun-colorado-myth/) But I can tell you it is much more sunshine than anything east of . If you ever drive across the US, you will notice that as you approach Kansas City from the West, the clouds start coming in. If you look at a Google maps' satellite view of the U.S. you can kind of confirm this because it is relatively brown from Kansas City west, and relatively green from Kansas City. The darker the green the more rain, i.e. the more clouds.

FB: What is your most memorable magic experience?
Author: I had a little kit as a kid (way back in the 1970's), but then my parent's friend came over and showed me some really cool illusions. I was fascinated and I was hooked. I took a magic class from him and did a performance for the class. My neighbor was organizing a talent show at the middle school and asked if I would do some magic. I did it, and people were kind of impressed. I left them all guess how I did the tricks. That was my first show and I was scared sh--less, of course. But I learned there is nothing as exhilarating like being on stage; at least for me.

FB: How long have you been in ?
Author: Long enough to know Castle Rock, Colorado when it as only 25,000 people, that there was no such thing as a Panera Bread, and the IKEA building ruined any last hope of keeping Colorado from succumbing to the influence of the east and west coasts' building boom without regard to an existing culture. I call it, the , which I hope will stop. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind progress, but come on, the Ikea building? That's just .

FB: What makes you refer to Pikes Peak - America's Mountain and Longs Peak as "the bookends"?
Author: Well, if you hike up the Castle Rock, Colorado park path to the base of the rock and look due west you will see Devil's Head Fire Lookout Tower, or at least the peak it is on. Then if you look south, there is rising up at the southern end of the front range. If you look north, then you see at the northern end of the Front Range. Both are 14'ers, meaning higher than 14,000 feet. There are a couple 14'ers between the two that you can see, like , as they call it now, but those two pretty much frame out the view from Castle Rock. It's a great view and you should hike the trail up to the Castle Rock sometime.

FB: Books are one way to entertain, have you done any other mediums?
Author: Yes, I've written, produced, edited and acted in 2 movies (Gerald and Auto Shop of Horrors with Glenn Berggoetz - another wonderful writer). I've written a Christmas play for a community theater. I've written a couple songs (with some help from Marguerite Juenemann, a great Jazz singer and teacher; Over the Castle; and Badly Built Robots) and produced music videos for them. I do some short videos for Youtube with one video getting 1M+ views, and lots of comments. I like interacting with people who watch the videos. My Youtube channel is:

Author: Of course. Unlike big publishing houses that publish everywhere as one event with advertising in the The New York Times, kind of like a shotgun style, our publisher does a slower roll out which allows it to test the marketing at different stages. Next up will be Barnes and Noble, again as paperback but also Nook.

FB: Devil's Head seem pretty cool. What about the actual location did you use?
Author: It's location just west of Sedalia, Colorado, is actually true. It has a great 1.4 mile hike from a Rampart Range campsite to the top, which is about 9,700 feet in elevation. On a clear day you can actually see Pikes Peak - America's Mountain to the south and Longs Peak to the north, and darn near every other 14'er peak in between. It's a great hike. Check it out at:

Today Tim Gallagher was one of the judges at Palmer Ridge High School's 1 Act Play competition. It was a wonderful day of great performances. Congrats to all who participated.
