The Guardian's Tim Jonze talks to organisers of the original Rock Against Racism gig.

In the 1970s, the National Front were on the march. So Britain’s music fans and artists united. As a new show celebrates RAR’s achievements, we examine its impact, its legacy – and its thrilling, shambolic climactic concert

Kia ora, whanau! Big thanks to all the visitors to the RAR page.

This page was set up to publicise our first charity gig, which raised $700 for a really deserving local group, Shakti Migrant Womens Support Centre. We'll be back in 2021 to do it all again.

In the meantime, do what you can individually to end racism. Call it out, if you can. Be positive, be proud. Educate, organise and offer support.

Be part of the change.

Solidarity,
RAR Otautahi

Popped into Shakti Migrant Womens Support Group with a big heap of vouchers that will be used to help their clients in their time of need. Thank you so much to everyone who helped, played and watched the gig.

You made this happen, whanau.

See you again in 2021!

Rock Against Racism started in the UK in 1976 as a reaction to violently racist remarks made by Eric Clapton, a white man who made millions stealing riffs from black musicians.

RAR's most famous gig was on 30 April 1978, in Victoria Park in London's East End. The concert featured X-ray Spex, the Clash and Steel Pulse amongst many others.

RAR continues to this day; wherever there is bigotry, music will be part of the fightback.
