Recently, I had the honor of speaking with one very unique and accomplished Storm Siren Mermaid.

She doesn't fit the mold. She's dark, mysterious, and unusual. Sirens are deadly.

Diving into mermaid culture, this became my favorite discovery: 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐥𝐝. The mermaid community is wildly diverse. Men, women, children, all colors, sizes, personalities, and styles. It's a wonderful underwater world.

Sometimes these characters are glamorous and dramatic. Sometimes grumpy teenagers. Sometimes wise, old storytellers. Sometimes silly and playful. Sometimes... a little spooky.

I asked Storm Siren, a 25-year-old professional mermaid from Mississippi, to share her story:

"I have been mermaiding since 2018 and hold the titles of Miss Mermaid Mississippi and Sea Queen of Mississippi as well as being a PADI Advanced certified mermaid.

In May of 2024, I competed in the Swiss Merlympics in Switzerland with my team Triton's Cove, placing 4th overall.

I love being a mermaid because it combines my passion for swimming with the magic and fantasy of mermaid lore. It allows me to express my creativity and connect with an amazing community of merfolk around the world."

You can meet Storm Siren in person, along with all of our talented merfolk, pirates, and performers, at the first ever Mermaid Bay Festival 2025 on April 5, 2025 in sunny Port Saint Joe, Fla. 🌊🌴☀️

I STAND WITH THE WHALES, I STAND WITH PAUL WATSON!!!

On July 21 2024, Captain Paul Watson was arrested by Danish police upon arrival in Nuuk, Greenland, onboard the M/Y John Paul DeJoria. Danish authorities claim that the arrest was made due to an international arrest warrant issued by Japan, related to his anti-whaling campaigns in the Antarctic more than a decade ago.

Paul faces the possibility of extradition to Japan, where he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
