Here are a few big changes that are going to be coming to Folklorist once we get settled in
💐 Building our own regenerative farm! Shooting for ten acres is the goal. Filled with flowers, produce, and a few livestock to create a compete ecosystem.
🏡 On that farm will he a zero waste home or retreat. A small container home made to allow you to actually live truly zero waste for a short time. I wanted this in mind specifically to combat a lot of eco anxiety I know everyone in this space can feel.
🍓 Zero waste groceries! Part of the brick and mortar will of course have those zero waste essentials you expect to see (cleaners, household swaps, refillery) but I also want to have package free and sustainable grocery items to make it a one stop shop. That means pantry staples, produce, ethical meat and dairy, everything you can find at your typical grocery store!
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 And finally a community. Creating community through events and workshops and helping everyone we can with their sustainable journey.

I have been quiet on social media a bit because a lot has been going on at Folklorist Co!
I promised some big news and the biggest is that we are actually moving!
will become our new home soon and with this change comes even more changes! With the next few posts I will be doing a grid style to highlight how Folklorist will become a sustainable market rather than just a sustainable florist.
I’m talking store, cafe, farm, retreats, and a ton more exciting stuff.
Houston will always be my home but bigger ideas and plans and family have told me it’s time to move.
As always thank you for supporting this sustainable shop! Your support allowed me to expand into something bigger that I will be sharing with you in the next few posts. 🥰🥰

You don’t have to be completely zero waste. You don’t have to be vegan. You can still order takeout and buy Halloween costumes and live your life the way you’re used to.
Just try to make your actions a little better each time. Can you compost something? Recycle something? Buy less of something? Can you thrift that outfit instead of buy new? Is there a local option? Any small action is better than none at all.

Eat Less Eat Better:
A simple mantra that has a big impact! For those that do not want to go vegan consider eating less meat (for the planet and the great health benefits) and when you do eat meat (or other animal products) choose to eat only from sustainable and regenerative farms.
Livestock can aid our fight against the climate crisis by helping nurture and cultivate the soil which can sequester tons of carbon and keep it from going into our atmosphere.

Folklorist Co has developed into a sustainable brand. I want to offer as many sustainable swaps as possible! So along with beautifully local flowers we also have household cleaners, laundry detergent, hand soap, and dish soap to refill!

With the latest IPCC assessment on climate change being so dark and dire it can feel like what’s the point. I know. Eco-anxiety (wanting to do the right thing but feeling like it’s pointless) is real and daunting.
But let me tell you something.
YOU matter. YOU are powerful. YOU can change the world.
Just by simply being you and living your life.
Every action matters. Do you really need that Starbucks? Can you go inside and bring your own cup? Do you need Amazon? Or can you order through someone’s website or find it in person? Can you try to eat less meat this week? Are there people around you who care about these things that you can talk to? Are there artists, business owners, any kind of tribe you can make so you don’t feel like it’s just you?
Asking yourself simple questions and making simple changes is where it counts.
DONT feel pressured to be completely sustainable or zero waste TOMORROW. It’s impossible.
DONT beat yourself up to the point where you stop doing anything.
DONT believe that you’re just one person and you don’t compare to these big companies.
Are they ruining the planet? Yes. Do we need compete reform? Yes. But YOU still matter. YOUR actions still have an impact.
It can be as simple as composting your food waste and you can save millions of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
Just by bringing a reusable cup you can have an impact on the MILLION water bottles that get thrown away every MINUTE.
That’s the power you hold. Spend your money wisely. You worked hard for it. Don’t use it to fund the end of the world.
Educate yourself. Watch documentaries. Read books. Listen to a podcast. Know your worth. Know how important you are.
Use what you have and buy better next time. We CAN change this. We CAN save the world.
We can do it together. ♥️♥️

🎉🎉ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉🎉

This post has been a while in the making. I’ve been silent for a while on social media because a LOT has been happening behind the scenes!
I am teaming up with Jonathan and Andrea from to open a zero waste grocery store and (hopefully) cafe in Houston!
Being at farmers markets, bringing on my refill station, and talking to so many people has made me realize that this is truly the next step in my sustainable business journey.

Sadly. That means I have to sell the 🚐 bus. That money will be used to help develop this store and eventually I will get another van to do deliveries and pop ups in!

Just like writing a story can take you to a destination you didn’t realize it was going, Folklorist Co has taken me to try to save the world in whatever small way I can.

Thank you to Aline Adriana and Jaime for answering SO many questions and being incredibly inspiring human beings. I hope to connect with more eco minded entrepreneurs during this process!

Right now we are curating a product/vendor list and looking for a location for the store/cafe. (And yes the cafe will also be zero waste!) it’s a large undertaking but as Oregon burns for over a month and more of Hawaii is threatened to be destroyed by oil companies this is the path I can take to do my part in my hometown.

Texas will always be my home. Sometimes she makes me cringe but I know she will embrace this business with some heat, love, and community.

I will still be selling flowers and the refill station. Business as usual. But this is the end game goal. So if you know anyone that would be interested in helping in any way tag them in this post or send their info my way!

Every decision matters. Every dollar spent in important. Have your actions support your future.

Happy Friday! 🥳🥳

There are a lot of exciting changes going on at Folklorist Co! I started this company after watching a Netflix show and discovering the deceptively large carbon footprint of the floral industry. Through this business I have met so many amazing people and have found that people will truly do the right thing if the option is readily available. Which has inspired me to push Folklorist Co into a sustainable brand rather than only a sustainable floral company.

In the next coming days, weeks, and months I will be sharing some surprising, amazing, and even some sad news regarding the business and this new direction. We will always be a floral company. Always! But we will be expanding into more than that to help change the world as much as we can. As a true Texan you either go big or you go home.

And I ain’t going home, baby. 😘

For I’ve created a simple and attainable calendar to help you reduce your plastic waste every day and hopefully make better habits for the rest of your life! Join me in my stories to see how I do it and then tag me to show how you do it!
Today being the first day we are auditing our trash bins. This means looking through our trash can (landfill box) and seeing where we can recycle, reduce, refuse, or reuse next time we purchase.
✅ Recycle and compost everything you can.
✅ Reduce the amount of things you buy in general. Do you really need it? Will you want it tomorrow? Is having it work the impact to the planet?
✅ Refuse buying it if there is not a plastic free option. (Hint: there always is)
✅ Reuse it by washing the containers (glass or plastic) and using them in other ways such as a refill station 😉

And always remember!!!

It’s World Oceans Day! But what does that have to do with flowers?
Buying flowers wrapped in plastic sleeves means polluting the ocean and the environment. Even ‘biodegradable’ plastic breaks down into micro plastics which are smaller than a grain of sand! Sea creatures eat that plastic, who in turn get eaten by bigger fish, who then get eaten by us!
The same goes for those little flower food packets! And guess what? You don’t even need them! Just change the water in your vase every two days and they actually last longer than with flower food! Basically if you wouldn’t take a bath in the water why keep your flowers in them?
Help lower your plastic use and keep a smaller carbon footprint by buying from local florists who only use sustainable practices. Like us 😉
