So the open studio yesterday was really awesome! Thank you so much to all my friends and family who came by to see my space and support me - it truly meant the world to me 🥰 A lot more people came than I was expecting which was really fun getting to talk to so many new people and show them my work. I even had one couple buy something from me too - SUPER BONUS 😀 .

In typical fashion I underestimated how long it would take to set up beforehand so my daughter Leks (who came to help me) and I were still setting up when guests started showing up, thank goodness two of them were and because they immediately started helping us finish up ❤️❤️ You two are amazing and I love you so much!!
Also in typical fashion, I didn't take any pictures during the event other than one of my youngest daughter modeling some of my clothing (she loves wearing this stuff and looks amazing in the golds) Anyway, as we were packing up at the end of the day I realized I had been too busy to take pics and so snapped rushed and terrible pics 😆 All in all, it was a great day. I learned a lot about what I will do differently if we have another one. It was a good trial run for doing vendor shows too, which, amazingly I have never done...soon though 😉

Came in to my studio this morning and one of the artists who works in the building left me these on my work table 🥰 . He's gonna be put of town this weekend so won't be participating in the open house but he's wishing us well ❤️

A couple months ago I was commissioned to make 4 custom skirts for for their upcoming production of "Scrooge" a holiday musical. Then last week I had the opportunity to go see the show with my daughter's 8th grade class (and several other schools in the area). It was such an amazing show - you know it's good when several hundred middle schoolers are cheering and having a great time. The cast even did a Q&A with the students after the show ☺️
It was also super cool knowing that on stage a few people were dancing around wearing skirts I made 🥰

Anyway, if you're in the Tucson area and are looking for something fun to do go check it out! The theater itself is wonderful. Seriously, no bad seats. We were in the second to last row on the floor, all the way at the end of our row and the view was still amazing.

COME VISIT MY STUDIO!!! I'm super excited to announce that Rain Crow Art Collective , where I have my studio, will be having an open house on Saturday, December 2 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Come and see my work in person and also visit several of the other creatives in their studios too, including Tom Buchanan Arts, Prickled Pink Plants, Differently Abled Entertainment, Jason Ashkenazi Studio hair stylist (with pop art), Wiggle Room Studios tattoo artists, and more.

There is parking on Castro St. and in lot north of the studios. Enter the courtyard through the gate between the parking lot and studio spaces.

Yay! A new milestone for me! I got my 1000th review today ☺️ Providing an excellent product and just as excellent customer service has always been super important to me so this is a pretty big deal. New waist cinchers coming to my shop soon! I had only a small piece of this fabric so was only able to make 7 of them. I have 2 in size SMALL and one each in sizes XSMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, X-LARGE and X-LARGE. 😊

Just listed this caplet in light gray fleece. It has a full pixie hood and embroidered oakleaves at the neckline with the toggle clasp. It, and many others, are available in my shop now.

Gorgeous view for my run this morning 🌄

We woke up to snow Saturday morning and the mountains still have a lot on them and I just want to keep looking at them because I know it's gonna be gone soon. 💜

Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my dad passing and I while I didn't spend the day being sad and mournful, I definitely wasn't feeling great. I literally spent the entire day on the couch watching art videos on YouTube 🎨 Thankfully my husband took care of dinner and running our girls to a thing they needed to do with their Girl Scout troop. I just needed an escape day I guess. I miss my dad terribly but I know he would be pi**ed if he knew I was sitting around crying over him so I'll take my day and get back up and do what I gotta do. Today is beautiful and I've got a pile of orders to work on, so here we go!

Hey look, It's me! 😳😅

Day 11 of is "Portrait" (yeah...I know I'm a day behind. SOML 😆)

🌸 I tend to get really awkward when posing for pictures so don't like to take selfies. I took an obscene amount of pics just to get this one here, lol.

🌸 Anyways... Here I am with my pandemic haircut - or lack there of actually. Other than cutting bangs myself in November (or maybe it was December, I have no clue) I haven't had a haircut since some time in late 2019 😬 I started letting the natural gray grow out in May of 2018 so it's all long now and usually a crazy mess. This is what it looks like when I wash it and let it air dry. I don't keep it down for long though because it gets all frizzy - it's usually in braids, ponytails, or a big messy bun so I don't have to deal with it. I do love all the different tones I've got going on though 🖤🤍 I am super happy that more and more women are ditching the dye and letting their hair go natural. Every time I see someone when I'm at the store or wherever, who looks to be in their 30's or 40's and they have gray hair I'm like "Oh, hey silver friend" 🤣

🌸 A few years ago I was having such a hard time finding pre-made clasps to use on my cloaks and caplets that 1. I actually liked and 2. were sturdy enough to last. I never found what I wanted so I began making my own with my embroidery machine 😊 Little things to make each piece just a little more special.

Learning Curve - Day 9 of . So, pretty much every part of this small business of mine has had its own learning curve. When I'm asked what I do for a living I tell people that I'm a costume maker and most people say "Oh wow! That's so cool." And I think so too until I think about all the behind the scenes stuff and I'm like "It's a LOT of work and it's really really hard." There is SOOO much more to this gig than just designing and sewing stuff. I am a one woman show so that means I have to also do the marketing, customer service, book keeping, social media management (like creating this long ass post, 😄), product sourcing, photography, photo editing, packaging and shipping. All I really want to do it the fun part though 😉 When I started this business I had no clue what I was doing, lol, and I still pretty much hate all of it, other than the creating part. I'm not great at most of it and I have made a ton of mistakes along the way but I have learned a lot. I have spent countless hours doing research, watching "how to" videos and reading countless books and blogs to teach myself how to do all the icky parts of a creative business. Running a business is very hard but it can also be very rewarding which is why I keep plugging away at it. I have little doubt that I'll make many more mistakes, hopefully I keep learning from them. And MAYBE (fingers crossed) I'll make enough money eventually that I can start hiring out some of the work that I hate so much 😄 Any other makers out there hate the non creative part of the job as much as I do??

OH! By the way, I made this awesome caplet today 😍 It's made from the softest eggplant colored fleece ever that I found at last week. It was a remnant piece that was JUST the right size for this. I hope to have it listed in my Etsy shop on Friday 🌸

(It's a long one....) So my planned shop update in March never happened and I'm just now getting to that. 😬 A LOT has happened in my life since my last post here. My dad got sick in late December and passed away on March 14th. Before I had had a chance to come to grips with that huge loss we started home quarantines here due to the Corona virus pandemic. My mom, who had been married to him for 59 years was now alone and we couldn't go see her when we wanted to and that was really, really hard. My husband who was in Iraq for work and due home in early April was stuck there and not able to get home because of all the cancelled flights and closed borders. He didn't get home until May 30th. My daughters were having to home school for the first time ever (I am a crappy teacher btw) and I was just trying to keep from losing my s**t every day. With all of the ren faires closed my costume sales pretty much stopped until mid May which ended up being a good thing because, to say I was an anxiety ridden mess would have been an under statement, lol and I really needed some down time...but not TOO much down time 😆 In early April I began making cloth masks for family and friends as well as a bunch for our local health department. It was nice to do something necessary to help with the pandemic but it also gave me something to do while the costume sales were so slow. At the urging of some friends, I made a listing in my secondary shop on Etsy and began selling masks there. I miss the costuming though so I'm finally getting back on track with that. Until yesterday all of the items I had made in early March have just been sitting on my shelf in my studio awaiting photos. I finally got that done yesterday. I'm not really sure why I put it off for so long but it's definitely a relief to have that part done. I've got a bunch of new hats to list as well as several waist cinchers including this awesome yellow one with an embroidered dragonfly. Thanks to all of you who have read this far. I will try not to bombard you with posts of all the new items at one 😆 I hope you all are staying healthy and sane ❤❤
