Year two under our increasingly tight belts—yes, we're looking at you mini Mars Bars, Toostie Rolls and Popcorn Twists!

Thank you to all the fantastically dressed Nelonsites who skipped, shuffled and shimmied down our little alley! You are the best. And big creepy kudos to the Kootenay Co-op & Nelson & District Credit Union for their donations and impeccable community spirit.

This Halloween, visit the Carbonate/Silica alleyway between Josephine & Ward! A few of us fiendly neighbourhood ghouls-next-door would like to lure...er...invite trick or treaters to take a safe and spooky trip down what we're calling The Trick or Treat Trail. Expect loads of candy, creepy lights & music, witches & whatnots, and probably zombies —you know, the good stuff.

Visit us from 6 - 8 or until we run out of scream. 👻💀⚰️🪦🌙🦇🧙‍♀️🧟‍♀️🎃

*note the alley will be well-lit, but it's still an alley, so watch your step etc & so on

Let the gourd times roll! Mad thanks to the fab-boo-lous folks at Kootenay Co-op for their generous donation to our little community creepfest! A box of wickedly wonderful squash for carving (and eating/sharing with our neighbours), a box of apples for our totally not-trustworthy witch to dole out on Halloween and some MASSIVE pumpkins to jack o’ lantern up... how devilishly delightful is that?

Pumpkins are awesome (especially if you use the whole vegetable for eating and safely composting), but how about turnips? The custom of carving faces and lighting up hollowed out vegetables to ward off evil and tricksy fairies is an old Celtic tradition—in a land where pumpkins were not native. However, plentiful turnips—sturdy, easy to carry and long-lasting—make excellent lanterns or "tumshies". Some folks would even keep their tumshies from season to season. They get quite spectacular as they dry up and become wizened and deliciously terrifying. You'll see a few lit turnips along the Trick or Treat Trail this year. If you decide to carve one (or three), we'd love to see your work! Share a photo and spread some tumshie terror.

Starting tomorrow, Monday Oct 23rd, all the way up until Tuesday Oct 31st we will have our Halloween Costume Raffle happening!

Here's how it works:

From Oct 23rd to Oct 31st, come in for a drink or bite at The Black Cauldron in your best Halloween costume. Every dressed up person in your party gets their name added into our Halloween Raffle. If you come in multiple times during these dates, you get multiple entries into the raffle. If you take a selfie in costume, post it on your instagram story and tag you get an extra entry into the raffle.

On the night of October 31st, the lucky name will be pulled from our witches hat and the winner of the $100 gift card will be announced!
