First of all apologies for the hour, but we feel it is very important to raise an urgent alert as a result of the recent press conference held by the Vice President of Guyana, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, today, November 23, 2023.
Attached is an excerpt from the aforementioned press conference where Mr. Jagdeo officially declares with inflammatory threats, the association and involvement of the United States Department of Defense in the border controversy, in a clear threat to the peace of our region.
It is well known that the United States has constantly attacked and attempted to violate and by any criminal means, interfere in the internal affairs of our country, always with the objective of regime change that is favorable to them, we have sufficient evidence of this.
The involvement of the United States of America in this controversy is a direct threat to our national security by one of our main political adversaries.
All this does not contribute to the peaceful resolution of the dispute, but deliberately seeks its escalation with the involvement of an outside imperialist force such as the United States of America has always been.
Ask yourselves, what do you think are the consequences of involving an imperialist force external to our region with such a criminal record, the same one responsible for the invasion of Grenada, responsible for the criminal blockade of Cuba for so many years, for the invasions of Haiti, Dominican Republic, Panama and one of the few that still supports Israel's crimes in Palestine and a long etcetera?
Venezuela is aware of the historical position of Caricom regarding the border controversy but we have insisted that extra-regional interests such as those of the ExxonMobil company are being supported without regard by the United States of America and unfortunately Guyana is following the path dictated by them.
Friends, for us this is very, very serious, we denounce that the United States of America intends to use the Essequibo border dispute to destabilize Venezuela and the region once again.
Therefore, we ask you to remain alert to this situation.
