The Potjie sculpture, inspired by the three legged cooking pot, will create a stage space for performance and storytelling and hold a safe ceremonial platform for the gathering of the community for group discussion and creative self-expression. Our grander vision is to introduce Art, culture, gardening and other community upliftment workshops to rural areas of the Eastern Cape as well as building
and leaving infrastructure for these workshops for the communities. After a successful series of workshops in Steynsburg, the idea behind the ArtSpark movement is to introduce these to other small towns and train up facilitators to continue the work we have started.

We just sent reading material and seeds to the growers in Steynsburg and we continue to gather what we can. Not forgetting another word of thanks to Dom Kettle for continuously sharing seeds and the most important gardening tool (information) and the ambassador of Amaranth Angela Mac Pherson for donating amaranth seeds.
Imbadu - Art Spark would like to extend a word of gratitude to Dom Kettle who believes in our vision and mission and continues to support us. He donated some of the seeds we took with us to Steynsburg and agricultural reading material. Dom gave us a call to say i have more seeds and reading material so that we get both theory and practice. We thank you endlessly and will make sure to get these to Steynsburg as soon as we can.
It's been a few weeks since we were up in Steynsburg for the first Imbadu - Eastern Cape Artspark and we're ready to share some of what happened.
First up is Nasaa with her view on some of the issues faced by Steynsburg and other remote towns in South Africa and an inspirational message to budding young artists and creatives.
Documenting the activities and people was an important part of the process, as a means to show what we got up to, but also to share the voices and messages of the special people we came across in Steynsburg.

Some more art updates. Also we're getting indigenous succulent and cactus additions to the garden.
These guys loved using our wood offcuts as toys.
First day portrait by Lihle. Plus some powerful performances we will be sharing soon.
Today we dug some dirt. Late evening push to throw we concrete before the rains come. 💦
Zolani Dasie will be leading a dance workshop.
Just testing the speaker.
The core Imbadu crew has arrived in Steynsburg. We've spent the day speaking with locals, putting up posters and planning our busy schedule next week.
Seen here gathering the family Dasie potjies. One of the pots has been passed down 3 generations.
Pictured from left Jemma Kruger who will be looking after our and all the participants stomachs. Thulani Qawula a Steynsburg resident who will be leading local food growing and permaculture workshops. Gloria Nkomfane and Lindelwe Dasie, Monwa's auntie and mother who lovingly lent us the potjie pots.
Thanks to everyone for their donations, we have managed to raise 30% of our food fundraiser!
Help us get to our target by donating through Quicket.

This money will go towards food for our participants in our daily workshops. In what better way than a wholesome cooked potjie lunch.

Yaaay we have some amazing news!
Imbadu finally received funding from the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC). With very short notice we are going to be up in Steynsburg, a tiny remote town in the Eastern Cape and the hometown of Monwabisi Dasie.
Unfortunately the NAC only gave us a much smaller part of the budget than we requested and are asking for your help to fundraise some extra money for food for the crew and for one potjie meal per day for all participants.

We will be there from the 1st - 10th of May, offering various arts and skills workshops to the local community.
This is the first exploratory step of a much greater idea to introduce arts and culture in rural areas.

We realize we each have the power to work towards a more promising future, and that we can actively contribute to the support and building of our communities and realize our f...

WOW - this Corona Virus is a thing!
It is a very sad day for us but we do understand the position AfrikaBurn had to take to do this
They say only love can break your heart, so it’s with heartbreak that we are confirming that the event that we all love so much is cancelled for this year.
We are a go!!
We got most of the funds from AfrikaBurn org and looking to raise a further R20k to make this a success.
Even though we are going ahead with this project, we still need your participation in making this a true success
To do so, we have opened a Go Fund Me campaign to raise a further lot of money. The funds from Afrikaburn covers the costs of material and tools needed to run the project, but we still need to get ourselves there and putting it up to feeding ourselves
