Gig Report: Total Chaos - Second Riot in the Philippines
On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the walls of Milenya Bar in Marikina trembled with the power and fury of true rebellion. The Power Couple Xio and Kim were the main architects of this disorder, bringing their unyielding spirit and crushing sound to life. Xio, the bassist of Davao's speed metal warriors and the mastermind behind Longhaired Punks Production, joins forces with Kim, the indomitable Head Honcho of Redhead Entertainment.
This punk-fueled night, supported by BCHC and Shops Clothing, promised to be an eruption of raw energy and defiance. It was a relentless assault of sound, a celebration of the underground where every riff and every beat shouts the unfiltered truth of who we are. This is not just music; it's a revolution, a testament to the chaos and the beauty of the punk spirit.
The night began with a thunderous Rotten System, a d-beat crust grind band from Laguna. Their relentless assault on the senses set the tone for the chaos to come.
Next up was Traces of War, a crossover thrash metal crew from Marikina. Formed in 2005, this band brought fiery vigor with Manuel unleashing gang shouts, while Bonez and HermieTano shredded their guitars to pieces, backed by Dbeat and HellJay’s pounding rhythm.
From Cainta, Exitus emerged, a 3-piece killing squad infecting the venue with alkoholik black rot n' roll. Their venomous sound left an indelible mark on the night.
Crusty D-beat Fvcks from Rizal, Deceit, then took over with a raw, rabid energy. Their unyielding performance whipped the crowd into a frenzy, preparing them for the next sonic onslaught.
Veterans Disabuse have been crust drunk punks since 1994 and showed no signs of slowing down. Gore's unbridled anger, RAW Man's drilling beats, EL Die's piercing riffs, and PAUL Maggot's bulldozing drum pounding were a brutal reminder of their raw power.
Berserk ph., Davao’s speed metal flagship, continued the mayhem with their blistering set. Their technically precise yet ferociously intense performance was the perfect segue into the main event.
TOTAL CHAOS from Pomona, CA, USA, brought hardcore punk rock to the Philippines. True to their name, they unleashed a whirlwind of raw energy, leaving the crowd in a state of ecstatic chaos.
This chaos was further fueled by Speedball, a trio of crossover punks from Sydney. They injected their own brand of madness, with roaring guitars and relentless beats that kept the momentum alive.
Radical Nuggets from General Santos City kept the punk spirit burning bright, preparing everyone for the grand finale.
Finally, the highlight of the night personally for me, Youth Alteration from SJDM Bulacan, delivered a performance to remember. Formed in 2021 by siblings Kaz (14) on drums and Yeumi (11) on guitars, they were later joined by Naya on bass in 2024. This all-girls Filipino hardcore punk band astonished the crowd with their raw talent, youthful exuberance, and unbridled passion, bringing the night to a tumultuous and triumphant end.
In the language of chaos and rebellion, "Total Chaos - Second Riot in the Philippines" was a night where the boundaries of sanity were tested, and the spirit of raw, unadulterated music soared high. This was a riot for the ages, immortalized in the memories of all who dared to witness its fury.
