From Me To You?
How did From Me To You Tutu start? Let us tell you!
As a dance teacher myself I always want the best for the students I work with - they all put in so much effort and love to their dancing and their parents do to. And sometimes you just cannot find a catalogue costume that will live up to the theme or the quality of their dancing, so over lockdown I set myself a goal of making a tutu from start to finish from scratch! Firstly I looked at costs and how affordable I could make tutus for, making sure to cover material expenses as well as time spent constructing. And in short tutus are expensive to make! They are essentially custom couture little gems, all handmade and take a lot of time and effort to complete!
But once I started making them it became more of an enjoyable hobby for my spare time so my costs are a little less because I truly do want to keep them affordable for dancers and their families. Especially when a tutu may only fit for a year or two! We currently only make stretch tutus in general sizes of Age (just as you would buy a leotard) to keep the costs lower and there is also an option to order a plain base and decorate yourself - perhaps you are great with rhinestones or glitter lace and can customise all on your own to save cost!
The last part of ‘From Me To You Tutu’ comes down to you yourself, the one who is supporting your dancer in purchasing the costume. ‘From Me To You’ is a lovely phrase to gift any item, but in the example of wearing a tutu for a competition or festival you can often feel as though you are helpless when watching from the audience! ‘From me to you’ allows you to give that little bit of yourself to your dancer to bring on stage with them as a little comfort or extra luck on show day! And I'm sure after watching countless practices in the studio and at home you will be dancing every step with them!
