Artes de la Rosa Cultural Center for the Arts at the Rose Marine Theater!

The North Side High School Mariachi was formed in 1980 under the auspices of the Texas Commission on the Arts. The Mariachi program has earned many opportunities to represent the Fort Worth Independent School District at various mariachi conferences, mariachi competitions and music conferences throughout the United States. The North Side Mariachi has had the opportunity to represent north Texas at the Mexican American School Board Members Association State Mariachi Festival, the UIL State Mariachi Festival, and the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators State Mariachi Contest.

The North Side Mariachi ensembles have been selected to perform at clinics and concerts throughout Texas and the United States including Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Chicago, Los Angeles, and a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2017, then varsity group was selected as the Grand Champions at the Mariachi Nationals and Summer Institute in Los Angeles, California. In the summer 2019, they were able to share their passion for mariachi music and their Mexican culture by performing and touring Northern Michigan, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. In February 2023 they were selected as the TMEA Invited Mariachi Ensemble where they performed a side-by-side concert with the virtuoso musician Arturo Sandoval. In December 2023 they traveled to Chicago where they served as the demonstration group for a Mariachi clinic led by Mr. Niño and Ms. Martinez.

The Mariachi program is currently under the direction of Mr. Ramon Niño III, Ms. Imelda Martinez and Mr. John Olmos.

FDCLA Film Festival, the premier Latino film festival in Dallas-Fort Worth, is thrilled to announce its open submissions for Local high school filmmakers. We are excited to invite talented high school filmmakers to submit their films centered around Latino themes. Join us in celebrating diverse voices and stories that resonate with the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community.
Rules: DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 20 (MIDNIGHT)
1. The entire film must be created solely by high school students. 2. Only films completed before 2022 will be accepted; submissions from earlier years are not eligible.
3. Please submit your film with the following information:
A. What high school do you attend?
B. When (year) was it completed?
C. Writer and Director's name.
D. Total run time: TRT
E. 2 pics of the production and 2 film stills.
4. Must have a downloadable link (Google Drive or a downloadable link)

Daughter of Rage
11-year-old Maria lives with her mother Lilibeth at the edge of a garbage dump. Their future depends on selling a litter of purebred puppies to a local thug. When the deal falls through, Lilibeth must go to the city and drops Maria off at a recycling center where she must stay and work. But days pass and she doesn’t return. Maria feels lost, bewildered and angry. One night, Maria meets Tadeo, an imaginative new friend who is determined to help her to reunite with her mother.
Filmmaker and activist, Laura Baumeister DeMontis, was born in Nicaragua in 1983, in the midst of a revolution spanning three decades. She became interested in story-telling from a young age, and studied filmmaking at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico.
She has directed more than six short films in Nicaragua, Mexico and Germany. Her 2014 film Isabel Im Winter has been screened around the world, won best fiction short film at Festival Ícaro, and was shown at the 55th Critic’s Week at Cannes in 2016. Laura traveled with Nobel Woman’s Initiative to Honduras and Guatemala for our Women Land and Peace delegation in 2017, and created two powerful short films to document the amazing women human rights defenders we met on the trip.
