Don’t know where to start with the wedding guest list?

Let’s be honest, creating a wedding guest list that satisfies everyone can become unnecessarily political and stressful.

Compiling your draft wedding guest list typically sits towards the top of your wedding checklist. Establishing approximate numbers early helps shape your budget and find a venue that perfectly fits your needs.

Initially, it seems fun. What could be bad about the thought of everyone you love joining you to celebrate your big day? But phrases like ‘Well, we did go to their wedding’, or ‘They’ll be so upset’ or ‘We have known the family for so many years’ (Even if you haven’t met for years), start creeping into the conversation and, all too soon, things descend into chaos.

If this sounds like you right now, know this, you are not alone, and other couples have faced the same challenge.

Don’t know where to start? Don’t panic, because we do…

Here are our top tips for creating your guest list;

1. Write a List of everyone you would even consider inviting.
2. ⁠Separate out your top tier guests (The Guests which you are 100% inviting).
3. ⁠Work out how many guests you can realistically afford (What is your budget?).
4. ⁠Consider your Parents input.
5. ⁠Set boundaries whilst being logical and fair. It’s okay to draw the line where you feel suitable. E.G (Set a policy for plus ones).
6. ⁠Stick your ground and don’t overthink.
7. ⁠Don’t rush the process.
8. ⁠Create a ‘B List’.
9. ⁠Consider Travel requirements.
10. ⁠Go with your gut and do what makes you and loved ones happy.

In the end, it’s your big day so do what is best for you and your immediate family. There is no right or wrong answer.
