"Starry night" by Vincent Van Gogh. I took this photo today (August 19th) in le Musée d'Orsay and discussed with the staff.
This painting belongs to Orsay permanent collection and this is the 1st of the 2 versions of Starry night that Van Gogh painted.
The one in le Musée d’Orsay (Paris), was painted in Arles and the other one is in New York (MoMA).
The one in New York was painted a few months after the first version, in Saint Remy de Provence (South of France) while he was in a mental institution.p
In the Musée d’Orsay there is a permanent collection of around 25 paintings by Van Gogh.
Among them : Starry night over the Rhone (1888), Vincent’s bedroom in Arles (1889) and Self-portrait (Saint Rémy – Sept 1889) and the Terrace of a Café on Montmartre (La Guinguette) Also “The church at Auvers” 1890
Right now, there is currently 9 paintings only, in Orsay museum because of this travelling exhibit that had started in Amsterdam (this is where the other paintings that are currently missing in Orsay, are).
The travelling exhibit is :
“Van Gogh in Auvers sur Oise, the final months”. In Paris from October 2023
Soon, this travelling exhibit will be at Orsay. An exceptional event that will gather about 50 paintings by Van Gogh, mainly focused on the 2 last months he spent in Auvers sur Oise (30kms from Paris).
