The Peninsula Prom 2020 committee is still working behind the scenes. We have reserved a few summer dates with a large venue. Dates will be planned according to the official clearance of the Virginia Governor and Health Commissioner.
Here are some key factors and information that we have recieved from the community:
1) We do understand that the state lockdown does not have an estimated end date at this time. We believe that planning is the foundation for a successful event and we will do everything that we can as a team/community to prepare for a future date.
2) There is no "I" in team and neither do we count "me". We are overjoyed by the community's response for wanting to contribute to this event. From teachers, parents, businesses, etc, the feedback has been tremendous.
3) There will be certain criteria needed from each attendee in order to attend. Information will be verified. We will enforce rules similar to High Schools to promote a safe environment for all attendees.
4) We do understand that the Peninsula Area has 10+ schools(Our focus area: Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Yorktown, Grafton). Although we would love to accommodate every senior in the area, please understand, this would be a challenge to handle that many students. Each school will have a certain amount of tickets for sale based on class size to guarantee fairness across the board.
5) Scholarship: Remaining funds** from the event will be awarded to students for scholarships. We will provide more details on how to apply in the future. **ticket sales, donations, scholarships
6) Once we have heard an official clearance, we will then accept money for tickets, donations/sponsorships. We are NOT taking money prior to clearance.
7) We currently have sponsorship partners on board to reserve the venue once we have official clearance.
8) Our official name is:
"The Peninsula Prom 2020". We are not affiliated with or recognized by any other name(s).
We are all entrepreneurs/ professionals from the community. We understand that we all have been affected by this pandemic in some way. Our goal is to give something back to our youth. Although the ultimate decision will be determined by the official clearance, we want to plan in advance.
