BOOKS FOR KIDS!!!!!
Well friends, it’s that time of year again. You know the one….where I surprise you with the news that I did not retire and will be teaching for ONE MORE YEAR! I grew up in a home that had an abundance of love and laughter, but money was very scarce. My parents, however, always found a couple of dollars for my brother and I to order books from the scholastic book orders that came home from school. We were also weekly visitors to the book mobile and/or public library. We were read to every night in the comforting embrace of our mom or dad and books were always a big part of our lives. It continues to shock me that so many of my students have absolutely no books of their own at home. This is why I started my monthly days in my classroom. I buy a wide variety of books for children of all reading levels and interests, and my students get to choose a brand new book to keep as their own every single month of the school year. I also give them an extra one at Christmas and on their birthdays, so by the end of the school year, each of my students has 12 brand new books of their very own in their home. The cost of books, like everything else, has gone up in the past few years. The cost to provide each of my students with these 12 books is $30-$36 per child. If any of you would like to donate to my literacy project, it would be greatly appreciated by me and by my students this coming school year. You can Venmo me, Apple Pay me, or if you would like to send a check just message me and I will send you the address. Thank you in advance for helping to build a love of reading in these very precious little soulss that I get to spend my days with. This should be the last time I have to reach out and asked for help with this project as I plan to retire after this year… But, I have learned to never say never.

I want to invite you all to the Boise Business Babes Spring Market on Sunday, May 5. There will be jewelry, crafts, baked goods, Mother’s Day gifts, beauty products, clothing boutiques and more. I will have a booth selling brownies and teacher appreciation gifts, and will be taking orders for balloon garlands. A great opportunity to support local small businesses and get some shopping done!
