Hi! I’ve seen a lot of posts shared stating that Uber will be offering free rides on NYE, as will AAA.

I tried to dig in further online, and from what I found, this is NOT true in most cases. Here is a good resource I found that shares where you can get discounted Uber/Lyft trips; however, it’s limited to a small number states/cities, none of which include Oklahoma: https://www.hercampus.com/life/new-years-eve-2024-lyft-uber-deals-promo-codes/

Please also do your research on the legitimacy of this information from this site, but this is the only resource I could find that shared detailed options for multiple locations.

In terms of AAA, it looks like that their Tow to Go program is only offered in a few states, and Oklahoma is not included. In this article ( https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/2023/12/27/aaa-tow-to-go-offers-safe-option-for-new-years-eve-partiers/72037449007/ ), it even mentions that Tow to Go should be a last resort as there’s a good chance that availability will be limited. They also mention in the article that Uber and Lyft WILL charge surge pricing, as usual, which is why I found the initial *free* discount code floating around suspicious. Unfortunately, I just don’t think a company like Uber would offer free rides to everyone on such a big day for them.

Please let me know if any of the information I have shared seems incorrect or if you have more information how to get cheap safe rides home in Oklahoma! I encourage EVERYONE to fact check information you see being shared on social media before you share it yourself. This is important information, and I don’t want anyone being put in an unsafe situation because of false information they saw online.

Also remember that there’s a good chance that Uber and Lyft prices might get into the hundreds of dollars tonight, but if you choose to drink and go out, plan for a way to work a safe ride home in your budget. It’s much cheaper than a DUI, and WILL save lives. I know $100 for a ride home can seem daunting, but if you plan accordingly, splitting it with friends can make it decently affordable.
