Unintended consequences: COVID has increased event opportunities
Traditionally event planning centered on key issues that included budget and travel requirements as well as the availability of venues and key participates. This meant that in order to plan a successful event all these things had to be checked and aligned. However, since the COVID 19 pandemic, the world has been forced to postpone and/or cancel in-person events and a lot have changed in the events industry.
A lot more events are being done virtually. This shift has freed up a lot of time needed for travel thereby creating more opportunities for delegates to participate in more events. Currently, people can attend an average of two to three events/meetings a day. Something unheard of pre-COVID as people had to travel to each location to attend an event. The number goes up if the delegates attends a few minutes of each event to see if it is of any interest before opting out.
Also, because venue hire, food costs and all the other scheduling activities are no longer part of the equation, the number of events that can be organized has also increased. All these changes have made for improved quality of delegates and key speakers in meetings/events as people now have a lot more time to spare. Virtual platforms have created opportunities where high quality delegates can actually participate in meeting where ordinarily may have been hesitant or too busy to travel to.
Cooperate event planners should take advantage of this to invite and engage their target participants and get more desired outcomes for their events.
