Had the pleasure of donating to a great cause.

Katie is the Volunteer Coordinator for The Power of People Leadership Institute here in North Minneapolis.

She is organizing a 6 week leadership day camp for 30-40 youth (12-18 year olds) this summer.

The camps mission is to introduce BIPOC youth to new and innovative experiences throughout the summer. The youth will take sailing classes, learn to swim, African drumming, yoga, golf, etc.

We were connected through a mutual friend and had originally planned for me to cover the 6 week program, but things happen. They have now lost their funding that was covering the cost for the 6 weeks.

I figured just because funding was lost shouldn’t have to mean that these kids can’t eat, so I’m calling on the neighborhood.

We got 3/6 weeks covered and are still looking to have the last 3 covered so reach out if you wanna help or have any questions!

Ok, here it goes. I’m not sure exactly when this overwhelming feeling of not being good enough began to take over—the years following college football 🥴—but I do know that I must keep moving forward regardless. I realize I’ll never be that picture-perfect image I have in my head, but I can commit to making small progress each day so that, one day, I can be proud of what I’ve set out to accomplish.

When I started this business seven years ago, I had no idea of the isolation that lay ahead. Thankfully, I’ve since found a community that has reignited my purpose and reinforced the positive habits necessary for this journey.

One thing I’m sure about is why I’m doing this, and I believe it’s the reason I’m still standing today. More on that later, so stay tuned.

Today, I come to you to admit that I’m scared and can’t shake the fear of failing again. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that I’ll be damned if I don’t at least try with everything I have.

So here I am, laying all my cards on the table and asking for your help. As you may know, I recently purchased a food trailer and need a little support to get over the hump and be ready to roll. Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

Trust me, I understand that times can be tough. There are plenty of ways to support, and even sharing this message and offering words of encouragement would mean more than you could imagine.

I feel like I’m stuck in quicksand and every second I get to breathe I spend twice as long suffocating. That’s entrepreneurship, s**t that’s life if you can’t see how blessed we are. I’m slowly learning how to trust other people, I’m slowly learning how to stop self sabotaging, I’m slowly learning that I’m not an imposter but blessed and equipped to make change. It’s hard, but if it wasn’t then it wouldn’t be worth it. I get very sad at times because I feel like a failure and then turn around and can be on top of the world because my family is so beautiful, my life is so beautiful. I’m grateful for this life, I’m grateful for your support, I’m grateful because, through it all, I know I belong and have found purpose outside of being an athlete. I was having one of those rough nights and things were slow so I decided to check in with a customer, he was deaf, but you can see how his meal was. I cry a lot these days because my heart is fed so graciously by those of you that still breathe life into me. To anybody going through a rough patch, I promise if you keep your heart in it then it’ll all be okay. I love you.

I decided to share this because as a black man I’m programmed to be strong in any circumstance, show no fear but I’m scared and at times I need help. BUT WHY WOULD I STOP?! I AM UNSTOPPABLE

How it all began ...

One fateful day in August, Babi, Riley and I went to the Minnesota State Fair. Little did I know that one quick stop for a picture (for a chance at free bacon for a year) would be the start of my journey. As usual, I was attracted by the strong aroma of bacon in the air as we exited the barn where Riley just finished petting a cow. That aroma led me to the Minnesota Pork Booth where they were giving out free samples. It is also where I saw the opportunity to win free bacon for a YEAR!

Long story short, we were selected as one of the winners of the free bacon! 52 pounds of bacon over the course of a year and while in the selection process, I made a statement on Facebook that I would throw a bacon party every month if I were to be so lucky and win. Well, once we won I remembered the promise I made and my father always taught me to be a man of my word, so I started spreading the word about the bacon party that I would be throwing.

The first party was March 4th, 2017 and I was so excited to finally get a chance to put my passion for cooking on display that I stayed in that night before and was asleep by 9pm. I wanted it to be time already! Aside from the bacon, I decided that I would have some fun and make a few other food choices as well. But it wasn’t just your ordinary food, I wanted to put a twist on your everyday favorites. I love food and everything that it has to offer, but we’ll get into that story another time.

I woke up the next morning at 6 am and could not fall back asleep, so up to the kitchen I went. 6 hours and an aching back later, I was done. On the menu was about 10 pounds of bacon, a dozen and a half of Glazed Donut French Toast and Spicy Guacamole Deviled Eggs.
