Introducing our next very special guest... Hannah in the Wars ⭐⭐⭐

She'll be supporting Young Moon at 18a on 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟕 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 (!!)

Hannah in the Wars’ alternative post-punk is informed by the likes of P J Harvey and Nick Cave, overlaid with intricate orchestral arrangements and incisive poetry.

Hannah Curwood is a songwriter from New Zealand. She has previously released 2 solo records (Sky Above, Horse Below in 2007, The Blind Love EP in 2009) and an album with her band Hannah in the Wars (Hannah in the Wars in 2015). Hannah in the Wars released the single ‘Glory’ in November 2019, followed closely by ‘Animal’ in 2020.

During her 9 years living in London, Hannah collaborated and performed with Roger O’ Donnell (The Cure), who produced the Hannah in the Wars album. Her unique voice has also appeared on records alongside greats such as Shayne Carter (Dimmer, Straitjacket Fits), Jen Cloher, Geoff Maddock (Goldenhorse, Bressa Creeting Cake), Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Paquin) and Graeme Downes (The Verlaines) among many other artists. She is currently writing a new album while experiencing the trials and tribulations of being a new mother to her beautiful daughter, Tilda, in Nelson, NZ.

The gig this weekend at 18a just got better....! We're excited to announce that local alt-folk country angels, Downriver, will be supporting Joe Ghatt this Saturday evening 🌟🌟

Fronted by Yann Le Dorré, Downriver will be debuting their original "shed smoking" sounds, brimming with the heartfelt balladry of '70s singer-songwriters and the existential melancholy of '90s alternative 🎸

Sorcerer of the six-string, Joe Ghatt, is embarking on a nationwide tour this winter to celebrate his first new studio record since 2019's acclaimed "Banana Sludge." Don't miss his show in Nelson on June 29, 2024!

Get ready to groove to his freshly released sophomore album, Caper. Crafted over three years during the Covid-19 lockdowns, this album is a labor of love and dedication. Joe has evolved his jangly psych and surf-infused garage rock sound with exotic influences like Afro-Beat, Tropicalia, Bossa Nova, Peruvian, and Latin music.

We’re looking forward to tonight’s gig with at !!

Yann Le Dorré is a folk musician based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. He sings saturnine songs for modern times and the stars too high in the sky. Drawing from 70’s singer- songwriters, outlaw country legends and 90’s grunge acts, he writes for the divorcees and drunkards in a series of acoustic reports from the rain-drenched capital.

To finish up, we have DJ Spontaneous Combustion laying down some hot tunes to see you into the evening 🎭🕺

Introducing.... the impeccable Ōtepoti noise rock band Dale Kerrigan !

Dale Kerrigan was born out of an underground creative music community, seriously lacking in space, and forced to embrace a DIY attitude in Otepoti, Dunedin in 2020.
They have two releases to their name; Noise Bitch (2021), and The Water (2022).
DK have travelled the motu playing shows to fans of explosive and emotive loud live music. Cutting their teeth at The Crown Hotel, and two national tours under their belt, Dale Kerrigan are not to be missed.

See you in a few days on January 04th at 18a .... bring your dancing shoes, it's gonna be a hot one

Introducing .... Koizilla (!!)

We're counting down until these Ōtepoti Dunedin psych-rock superstars grace the stage at 18a gallery this January 04th. Be sure to jump online and book yourself a $15 pre-sale ticket while you can.

Koizilla is made up of Zac Nicholls (guitar/vocals), Josh Nicholls (drums), Connor Blackie (bass/vocals) and Hilary Faul (organ/flute). Their sound blends together melodic riffs, doomy jams and chaotic rock. All of this is churned out into high-energy, fast paced live performances that they are well known for.

Koizilla formed in 2016 and recorded their debut EP, ‘Blunder Brother’, at the Radio 1 Studio in Dunedin. The band went on to record a further two EP’s within the next 12 months, establishing a high output method for delivering their music. Since then Koizilla have released two albums, another EP and a split vinyl with fellow Ōtepoti musicians Night Lunch.
