COVID-19 Weddings

Weddings were officially "cancelled” a year ago, however, in the last 365 days, love was never cancelled. Couples pivoted.. Weddings were postponed..Zoom ceremonies became legal..Petite parties were planned..Vows were celebrated.. And, through it all, marriage mattered.

Reflecting on the past year, there are silver linings to highlight: love lessons learned on the front lines, real weddings of couples who persevered to make their partnership official, and stories from industry leaders who were reminded of why they work in the business of love.. But, it has not been an easy journey for any of us, and particularly so for couples planning weddings and the individuals who make a living helping them.. Deposits were lost; guest counts were cut; dreams were reimagined. Many, many hard decisions were made.

Just as wedding plans have changed, weddings, as we knew them, have been forever changed..And a year later, we are still navigating our “new normal.”

Our hope is that it will continue to inspire you and help you navigate the now, all the while looking to the future with excitement and a renewed sense of hope..We will be together again, dancing, celebrating, and embracing those we hold close.

°WISHING THE NEWLYWEDS GOOD FORTUNE WITH THE WEDDING MONEY DANCE THIS PANDEMIC

Filipinos have many customs, traditions and superstitious beliefs surrounding weddings, but which culture doesn’t have their own? Even one of the most enduring customs called the money dance is present in other cultures such as the United States of America, where it is fittingly called the “dollar dance.”

So how is the money dance done in the Philippines? There are different ways to do it. One thing in common, though, is to have the bride and groom dance with each other. As with other cultures, one way to do it is to have male guests line up on one side and female guests on the other. They then pin money on the couple’s garments, with the males taking turns dancing with the bride, and the ladies, with the groom.

However, since we are in pandemic right now, most couple preferred to receive their money gifts thru Gcash, Paymaya or their bank accounts to stay safe.

°HOW TO HAVE A WEDDING IN THE PHILIPPINES UNDER THE NEW NORMAL.

Due to the pandemic, big gatherings are strictly prohibited. Social distancing and wearing a mask are now a MUST.

As a result, there has been a significant shift in the wedding industry. A simple ceremony where you are surrounded only by your immediate family is now encouraged, instead of an extravagant one.

This is great news for couples on a budget but bad news for those who prefer a more lavish, Instagrammable celebration.

°GUIDELINES FOR GETTING MARRIED (IN CATHOLIC CHURCHES) AMID THE PANDEMIC.

The following are the guidelines for liturgical celebrations and other ceremonies (e.g. weddings, baptisms, etc.) recently published by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

°No more entourage/abay.

°Attendees and all.people involved in the wedding should wear a mask at all times.

°Hand sanitizers, thermal scanners, and foot baths should be made available.

°Social distancing measures should be observed. There must be at least a 1-meter distance between people.

°Areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) are only allowing gatherings of up to ten people. For areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), religious gatherings, such as weddings, are limited to only five people.
