MINERAL LINES

Over the past six months, contemporary artists Jackie Saunders, of Tutti Arts, and Laura Wills have worked alongside one another.

Together, they have produced two-dimensional works in response to the mineral sciences collection at the South Australian Museum.

Inspired by the magic of minerals, contemporary artists Jackie Saunders (Tutti Arts) and Laura Wills have created Mineral Lines – a series of vibrant works in response to the mineral sciences collection at the South Australian Museum.

Jackie is a Ngarrindjeri, Wirangu, Kaurna and Kokatha artist known for her bold brushstrokes and dynamic use of colour. Laura's relationship to minerals is close to home, her father being a geologist. Her experimental drawing practice investigates the ways in which land, ecology, history and human behaviour intersect.

It’s on now until 18 September 2022

Bush tucker, also called "bush food", is any food native to Australia and used as sustenance by Indigenous Australians, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Here at bush tukka catering we try to influence some simple dishes with these extraordinary flavours.

From a simple saltbush caramel and banana muffin to a decadent quandong and apricot kouign amann and crowd favourites of roasted wattleseed and peanut butter brownies.

If you are interested in native ingredients, why don't you read at your local Adelaide library or have a scroll through Wikipedia.

Look out for some masterclasses and collaboration that we also do once in a while.

What’s NAIDOC Week?

NAIDOC Week is a chance to come together and celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations people here in .
Each year will choose a theme to build the celebrations around. In #2022 that theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! It’s focused on supporting and securing institutional, structural, collaborative and cooperative reforms.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. To understand what all that means though, we need a little bit of a history lesson.

In 1955, the Day of Mourning or Aborigines Day was moved from the Sunday before January 26 to the first Sunday in July. It was shifted because people wanted to focus more on celebrating First Nations cultures rather than protesting. The National Aborigines Day Observance Committee was then created in 1956 to organise national events.

In 1975, it was decided to celebrate for a whole week — rather than just one day. NAIDOC Week was born! Then in 1991, NAIDOC Week expanded to recognise Torres Strait Islander people and cultures. And that's why it’s called NAIDOC Week.

Ryhia Dank, a young Gudanji/Wakaja artist from the Northern Territory is the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC poster competition for 2022 with her entry, Stronger.

“I created this piece after reading this year’s National NAIDOC Week theme – Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! I knew straight away I wanted to do a graphic piece centred around our flags with text highlighting what we have been through and are still fighting for” said Ryhia. “I feel that this piece being black and white allows us to focus on the details and messages in the artwork”
