The name Kathy Papineau came up a few times during the reporting for this story and she could possibly be the hero we need right now. Papineau started MKE Kitchen (and catering company MKE Localicious), which every Tuesday prepares farm-to-table meals for the homeless from their location in Riverwest. She also helps coordinate donated meals for Healthy Eats for Hospital Heroes, where she came across the Kellner Back Acre Garden and she shared what she saw with Mittelstadt at Outpost.

“All in all, in three weeks, including Outpost, we unloaded 1,300-dozen eggs,” says Papineau, who had to also find help moving the eggs from a trucking company with commercial refrigeration access. “You can’t just treat these like they’re velvet Elvises and throw them in the back of a truck!”

Thank you to WISN 12 NEWS for covering this week's delivery of 120 healthy meals to the docs, nurses and staff caring for Covid-19 patients at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. Help keep these handmade, nutritional meals coming by donating via the info in our pinned post above.

A challenge grant from Milwaukee attorney Jay Urban helped kick off the food delivery campaign. All of the donated food is provided by local stores and restaurants.

We have received so much support for this initiative! And the front liners that are working 12+ hour shifts are incredibly grateful for all of us pulling together.. This week it was Hot of the Press organic juice with optional shots of ginger from the Outpost, An Organic Curry Carrot Soup, Organic Quinoa with sauteed veggies topped by a Rushing Waters Salmon Burger and a dollop of Avocado Mousse. A Silver Dollar Roll from the Breadsmith on Downer, And for a sweet treat - that didn't crash the blood sugar, Organic Dates with Organic Almond Butter and a few chunks of Chocolate. We are providing food that supports their immune systems, without their body's need to detox non-food like substances.

We made our first weekly delivery today of 120 fresh, healthy meals to the hospital heroes caring for covid-19 victims at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Please visit our "About" section on our page to learn about our effort and how you can donate -- we need your help to keep serving these dedicated doctors, nurses and staff!

Today's menu:

Tortilla Soup; vitamin C-dense, roasted sweet potatoes skewers; a roll from Breadsmith on Downer; and an organic date (low on the glycemic index), filled with organic almond butter and rolled in organic cacao. The broth was made with chicken from Kellner Back Acre Garden. Other ingredients are from Outpost Natural Foods Co-op and a few organic wholesalers. The soup is rich in fiber, protein and vitamins, and the cilantro is good for removing toxins. The meals were packaged in reusable Mason jars.
