Providing free healthy meals to the Froedert Hospital heroes caring for covid-19 victims.
Milwaukee residents Kathy Papineau and Jay Urban have launched Healthy Eats for Hospital Heroes, an initiative providing 120 freshly prepared, healthy meals one day a week to the doctors, nurses and support staff treating Coronavirus patients at health care facilities such as Froedert Hospital and Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers.
Healthy Eats for Hospital Heroes began by preparing and delivering a fresh weekly meal to the 120 heroes caring for patients over three shifts in the Froedert wards dedicated to Covid-19 patients. Our program expanded after a few weeks to include staff at Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers working with coronavirus patients. The meals are packaged so the health care heroes can choose to take the meals home if unable to eat during their shifts. (Recipient health care facilities may change based on need, donations and other factors.)
Ingredients are purchased from local food purveyors, who have lost much business from the temporary closing of their restaurant customers.
Suppliers for the meals include Outpost Natural Foods, Breadsmith of Milwaukee, Rushing Waters, Glass Pantry and others.
