🌿 Chekbo, Algerian artist and activist, weaves ideals into his music tapestry, effortlessly shifting from gnawa to punk, jazz to Algerian chaabi. Now crafting his inaugural EP after his 2020 debut 'Werewolves,' he brings a unique sonic experience.

Over the past 6 months, since Coming of Age, we have aimed to create a space where we can celebrate: celebrate our shared culture, our shared heritage, our shared joy, through the lenses of young & emerging artists. But at the core of what we’re trying to do, is our deep desire to create a space where our community can gather also to reflect, to grow and to nurture ourselves & each other 🌿

Join us on November 21 at Point Ephemere, as we process our connection to the lands, the fruits and the tastes that made us who we are, and how we can use them as a symbols of our existence, our resistance, and our persistence 🫶🏽

A month ago, we hosted our second edition of كلام أفلام, where we gathered along the banks of the seine, to celebrate the art & culture of our region, focusing on the theme على الشط. Through writing, photography, films and music, we spent a blissful evening questioning what our shores mean to us, the ways they separate us, and the way they bring us together.

There's nothing that screams على الشط like some good old classics — which is why we thought there would be no one better for this edition than Monstera Occulta. Monstera Occulta (re)immersed herself body and soul in Arabic music around ten years ago. Each song is like a return to her origins, to the music she heard as a child. 🌟 Born to a Belgian mother and a Moroccan father, she grew up listening to Nass El Ghiwane and Oum Kalthoum. 🎶 Today, oscillating between nostalgia for the great Lebanese singers such as Fairuz and the psychedelic sounds of Baba Zula, while slipping in little nods to belly dance music and Yma Sumac, she's ready to make you dance the night away on the banks of the Seine.
