Full Beaver Moon

The Beaver moon got its name because around this time of year is when the beaver starts to hold itself up in it's lodge.

Tonight's full moon will be 97% covered Friday morning during the eclipse which will last almost 3 and a half hours. Hope for clear skies!

Historic Brick & Tile Center

Built in 1916 and dedicated by President Taft in 1917, the Brick and Tile building in Mason City is home to several wonderful businesses including the delicious State Street Deli!

It's amazing how well you can see the Milky Way even being close to populated areas (like Clear Lake and Mason City), you just need to know where to look!

Enjoying the stars as I sit by the fire.

As I sit here, I'm just amazed at the fact there are currently 7 people, representing 4 different counties, all working together flying though low earth orbit (about 260 miles above sea level traveling at about 5 miles per second) on the International Space Station .

The ISS been home to over 240 astronauts from 19 countries in the last 20 years.

Amazing what can be achieved when we are willing to work together.

Only my 2nd ever edit. This was actually the first DSO I attempted to image, but decided to edit my M51 that was taken a couple of days later. Really excited at where this can go!

M31 Andromeda.

I had so much fun doing this. This week was perfect for looking at the stars! I'm looking forward to summer when it will be a little bit warmer to stay out all night, but I'll miss the long nights that winter has.

What is your favorite object in the night sky? Let me know and I'll see if I can get some pictures of it!

Next up for me is editing Orion from a few nights ago!

Stars over Chapin.

Sometimes I work at night and I'll get a chance to take some pictures on my way home. I've always driven by this place thinking it looked cool with all the lights and the stars in the sky. I'm just glad this picture seems to do it justice.
It's always do peaceful taking pictures late at night like this. It's sort of a meditation for me, and it's amazing. I think everyone needs to try and get out and enjoy the peace of the night sky.

I'm blown away at what can now be done with simply a phone. It seems to take several 10-16 second exposures and stack them. All within 4 minutes.

Foggy Boat Dock (10/08/2018)

I took this picture on this day 2 years ago! I am very proud of this one because it was taken with my phone!

I'm so lucky to ahve been working in Clear Lake that day and happen to drive by this dock. Had to stop and capture it. The whole lake was surreal looking with the thick fog.

Hopefully posting this gets me posting again since it has been awhile since I've last posted. That doesn't mean I haven't been taking any pictures, quite the opposite really! Looking forward to going through them and sharing them with you all!

C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE)

I was finally able to get out on a clear night and capture the NEOWISE comet! I love how simple it was to get with such a simple setup.

It was awesome how easily it could be seen with the naked eye. I recommend EVERYONE get out this weekend and try to see it just after sunset. It will be in the northwest near the horizon below the Big Dipper. Like says on their site, "Comet NEOWISE will likely look like a fuzzy star with a bit of a tail, so using binoculars or a small telescope is reommened to get the best views of this object."
