Yesterday was National Hair Day! 💇‍♀️

Princess Diana’s famous golden locks stunned with any style. But, perhaps her most-famous haircut was her “bixie cut” - a mix of a pixie and a bob. With women attempting to copy her style and a media frenzy surrounding the cut, the whole world’s attention was on Diana’s… hair.

“I cut her hair off and the whole world went absolutely insane” - Sam McKnight, Diana’s “bixie cut” hairstylist.

After that, Diana rarely changed her hairstyle in order to keep attention off herself, and instead bring attention to her work and the humanitarian causes that really mattered. ❤️

On this day 32 years ago, Diana’s Official Royal Photographer and friend snapped this photo of her standing on the Khyber Pass in Pakistan. 📸

Alexander the Great has marched through here, along with other would-be conquerors like Genghis Khan and Darius I. But, according to Anwar’s recollection, when Diana visited, she may have left the biggest impression of them all. The Khyber Rifles Regiment she visited were so enamoured with her, they preserved the quarters she stayed in and it is now dedicated as the ‘Princess Diana Room’ in memory of her.

On this day in 1986, Princess Diana and Prince Charles attended the America's Cup Ball at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Diana is wearing her iconic red taffeta and black velvet Flamenco ball gown designed by Murray Arbeid, with two different colored gloves. One of Princess Diana’s most notable qualities was how she interacted with children. She was famous for stopping to speak with, hug, and hold children all around the world. She would purposely dress in soft fabrics and chunky jewellery so that very young children could engage with her through the sense of touch. She also refused to wear hats on official visits with children, claiming “you can’t cuddle a child in a hat.”

This quality is also exhibited by her children and their families, which can be seen in this photo of Princess Kate in Panbari Village, Assam, India. We see it exemplified with her natural affinity with children and with people all over the world.

On this day 26 years ago, Princess Diana was laid to rest.

Her brother, Charles Spencer, spoke these beautiful words at her funeral:

“For such was her extraordinary appeal that the tens of millions of people taking part in this service all over the world via television and radio who never actually met her, feel that they, too, lost someone close to them in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is a more remarkable tribute to Diana than I can ever hope to offer her today.”

Princess Diana was only 36 years old and just entering her prime with a promising fresh start and purpose when she tragically passed away on this day 26 years ago.

The whole world stood still as the news of her passing flooded the globe. Prime Minister Tony Blair delivered an emotional statement to reporters later that day in which he referred to Diana with the now immortalized title, “the People’s Princess.”

Thousands of floral tributes piled up outside of Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace as people honored Diana and all she had done to make the world a better place.

Gone too soon, but her influence and legacy lives on forever. ❤️
