Whitehaven Underground Operator and professional boxer, Wade Ryan will face one of his toughest tests in Paris later this month when he takes on 21-year-old Bakary Samake for the WBC Silver Super Welterweight Title.

Having worked for Whitehaven’s Narrabri Underground mine for the past fourteen years, Wade turned professional in mid-2012 amidst unwavering support from his colleagues at Narrabri and across Whitehaven.

Wade currently holds the IBF Pan Pacific Super Welterweight and WBO Oriental Super Welterweight titles.

The team at Whitehaven will be cheering for you, Wade!

Heavyweight hard-hitter Jack Johnson is a legendary name in boxing. He was the first-ever black heavyweight world champion in the history of the sport, and undoubtedly one of the most dominant fighters of all time.

Johnson developed his own fighting style, which was unconventional in his time. He employed a more defensive approach to fighting, which was not typically the norm during his era. Strategically, Johnson would initiate his offense early, but then let his opponents fatigue as the fight wore on. He then turned up the aggression late in his fights and capitalize on his foes’ weaknesses.

But what made Johnson so special was his overall charisma. Johnson had a penchant for showmanship, and he knew how to dazzle a crowd. He was also one of the first black boxers ever to reach celebrity status with an assortment of sponsorships heading into his fights.

Two of the most respectful champions of our sport! The words shared in the dressing room between a legend of Boxing and a rising star was a special moment to witness. Miguel it was an absolute honour to have such a Champion inside and outside of the ring to fight right here in Toowoomba Queensland Australia. Thank you !
