This guy walks up to me, asking to signup to perform at the open mic. I direct him to the signup list on the bar. He asks if I have any instrumentals that I can throw on and he will freestyle.

Generally, I don’t typically do this as I prefer the artist to come prepared but something told me to just do it.

I ask him what kind of beat he wants and he tells me something mellow. I select a beat from YouTube and he proceeds to do his thing.

Well let me tell you, he blessed the stage with 4 minutes of incredible lyrical talent and just BARS. ‼️‼️ and that my friends is the beauty of open mic.

So much undiscovered talent and raw skill around us that needs to be given the opportunity to be showcased.

Our Unity Femcee Showcase was the first all-female lineup featured by Dutchess Entertainment.

Our goal for 2020 is going to be to focus on making lineups more inclusive, featuring femcees from all over New England.
