Studio Yukari is honored to be hosting Mistress Chiaki, deshi of Naka Akira, for a Nawa Kai in August.

Nawa Kai can be translated into a “rope meeting” which is a tradition in Naka Style. It is a place to share stories, experiences about Ki***ku - the history, the philosophy, the culture and the aesthetics.

This special Nawa Kai will consist of an interview/discussion followed by demonstration.

The interview and discussion will be led by Mistress Chiaki and Naoko, two female deshi (disciples) of Naka Akira. They will share their Sh***ri journey, their unique interpretations of Naka Style from a female perspective and their experience tying with people from different backgrounds.

It will be followed by short demonstrations where they tie freely and organically - without rehearsal and without music. Mistress Chiaki will be tying with a male submissive (to be announced) and Naoko will be tying with a female rope bottom.

Open Studio is an event for people to tie, practise, observe and talk about Sh***ri. Studio Yukari opens its doors for people who prefer to practise Sh***ri in a more intimate, quiet setting. There will be no introduction, no music and no theme.

Open Studio runs twice a month in an open format, with tiered pricing for people with different financial means. You are welcome to come and leave anytime. The event will be run by YOU, the community, instead of by us as the host.

This recurring class explores Naka Style of semenawa, as interpreted by Naoko, the third deshi (disciple) of Naka Akira sensei. There will be discussions, demonstrations, exercises and guided practice on the techniques and concepts in this style. We will build deeper understanding on the “how” and the “why”, the techniques, progression in feelings, and traditional aesthetics.

Each class will focus on different concepts and ties. Naoko will adapt her teaching to the students; exercises may be floor ties or suspensions depending on the level, progression and interest of the students. ‘Rope is free” - in developing these skills we are able to focus on tying in the moment and enjoying the journey together, as opposed to trying to reach a pre-determined end goal or shape.

Students are encouraged to attend these sessions regularly for better progression.

Tied is an event that centres and deepens the experience of being in rope.

In this recurring event, we will explore different topics and concepts about rope bottoming. The class will be divided into two parts, a talk/discussion/Q&A part followed by a practical session with meaningful exercises. We aim to create a safe space to discuss, express individual thoughts and exchange personal experiences. “Tied” actively encourages vulnerability and openness in discussions. The event aims to create a space where individuals feel safe to explore and discuss the intricacies of rope bottoming, knowing that their perspectives are valued and respected.

Tied will be facilitated by Anna Noctuelle, a highly experienced and versatile Sh***ri practitioner with over 18 years of experience. .noctuelle

This is a 2-day “Fundamentals of Kanna-ryū” intensive semenawa workshop taught by Mango, an authorized instructor of the style. His partner for the workshop will be Lies.

This weekend workshop will introduce some of Na***hi Akechi Kanna signature ties. Kanna’s style is restrictive, includes complete control of the body and often plays with the breath. Ties for this workshop will include floor play, partial suspension and possibly full suspension. Possible ties and harnesses could include: Kanna’s signature boxtie with tasuki-gake, ebi and agura ties, armless and teppō harnesses and/or hikyaku-zuri (running person). Specific content will be decided based on the level of the group.
