TALK (approx. 60min) - Kharkiv: War, Volunteers & Culture

DJ Sacred will talk about his experiences as a volunteer at the beginning of the full scale invasion, about difficulties and problems of civilians on de-occupied territories. Further he will talk about the current state of affairs in the cultural sphere of Kharkiv, such as venues, parties, labels and how they work together under the constant shelling from Russian forces. DJ Sacred will answer questions from the audience, together with Xepaces who will talk about Kharkiv media.

Some impressions of the 5th and final edition of Vital'nya Vienna, a group exhibition co-organised together with Office Ukraine & Format (*.strk)!


We want to say thank you to all participating artists: Ivana Lazic, Lucy Ivanova, Gloria Pagliani, Anatoly Belov, Olha Horiunova and Mark Chehodaiev. Thank you for sharing your beautiful artworks, insights into your artistic practice & your presence with us!


Thank you to the whole team of Office Ukraine, and Sasha Horbatiuk & Natalia Gurova especially, for the amazing cooperation, to the team of Format (*.strk) for hosting & support and to all of you who came by!

The 5th and final edition of Vital’nya Vienna will be a special one, with a little change of scenery: We invite you to our group exhibition “While I float”, opening on Friday, 13.01.23 at Format (*.strk), cosy art space in Währinger Straße 128, 1180 Vienna from 17-22:00!

“Walking among these strange new surroundings, I keep wondering, are they just as suspicious of me as I am of them? I leave parts of myself behind wherever I go, and now I’m reassembling. Looking in the mirror, I can’t seem to make out the shape of my own face, but there’s something moving behind me. Canvas creeps around the corner, lights are flickering. Plaster peels off the walls, with cracks spreading wide like pulsating veins. I turn around and I realize: This space is not actually empty, it is filled with absence. My feet are suddenly wet, my body soaking up with water. But I’m not drowning, I branch out, my socks grow into a beautiful tree. My ribcage has fallen out, yet I still feel so very alive. The walls of this house, they hold my breath.”

With artworks by Ivana Lazic, Lucy Ivanova, Gloria Pagliani, Anatoly Belov, Olha Horiunova and Mark Chehodaiev.

The exhibition is co-organised by Vitalnya Vienna, Office Ukraine & Format (*.strk).

Opening: 13.01.23 17-22:00 // Closing: 20.01.23 17-22:00 (additional showings on request). Please note that the exhibition space is on the 3rd floor with no lift.

Update! We're pleased to announce that Cybele will be joining our lineup on Wednesday!

We will introduce artist Anatoly Belov and his interdisciplinary musical, electronic, psychedelic project 'Cybele' in more detail on our instagram account tomorrow.

We're back! And ready to welcome you to our 3rd edition dedicated to music. Join us on 14.9.22

We're happy to announce that this time, we'll be joined by electronic duo Kurs Valüt , bringing their EBM, coldwave and synthpop from Dnipro, Ukraine to Vienna!

Afterwards DJ shelvy, a graduate of .shkola DJ school in Kharkiv, will round off the evening with a house/techno set.

„Vitalʹnya Vienna“ (Вітальня Відень) is a cozy platform aiming to open up an opportunity for artists & cultural workers from Ukraine to present their work in an informal, homey atmosphere and connect with the Vienna art and culture scene🥘

Who? Artists & cultural workers (all disciplines) arriving from Ukraine. The location and concept is open to music, DJing, dance, performance, poetry, talks and presentation of artistic research projects

What? We are looking for short (~15min) presentations of your work in a stage setting

Where? (upstairs), Praterstern 5, 1020 Vienna

When? 14.09.2022, 18:00 - 23:00

Free entry
We can offer an artist's fee per presentation!

screening of documentary short film "Territory of empty windows" by Zoya Laktionova
and DJ set by Olga Bekenshtein
