Cheap Tire Gauge:

Uses: To check and set Tire pressure.
Users: Owners of Pneumatic / Tubed or inflatable Tires.
Pros: Affordable, Easy to Use, Light, Compact with case, Metal Mechanism, Durable than most purely plastic gauges.
Cons: Tested Accuracy is 1-2 PSI (+/-), Plastic Body.

Verdict: Must Have.

Reco:
Always keep an analog Pressure Gauge in your emergency “Scoot-Kit”.

Why?

Because in case your Tires are soft you can top-up air and set your preferred pressure. Most often, public air pumps have broken calibration resulting in excessive pressure.

Excess pressure results in:
1. “Bumpy” or “Clunky” rides
2. Tube rapture / Wear
3. Tire-blowup / Failure

By checking Tire pressure regularly, you avoid expensive repairs and prevent damage to your scoot. Most importantly, you can return to your preferred pressure settings guaranteeing your suspension will work most efficiently and comfortably during your ride.

After almost four years, I had a flat tire. I fixed it yesterday and found that the leak was at the base of the tire valve where the tube had scuffs from the rim. Took it as a chance to inspect the entire wheel assembly.

Battery Power Sensor & Display Dashboard

Part 2: Assembly.

This MOD uses “off the shelf” components that are easily available either online or in electronic shops.

Please note that, I do not sell this components nor do I promote them. I made this Mod for my personal use only. In fact, there are many types of these module some with even more fancy and colorful screen display in various brands.

I chose PZEM-015 module not because of looks but because of functionality, chipset (electrical components) and specifications that I set and want to achieve in this Project.

They always say that “Pictures” tells a Thousand words so… Here are the snap shots of my assembly process.

Caution:
Xtrack Thunder uses High Voltage and High Current batteries. Do not attempt to implement this Mod without understanding fundamental electronic concept/s and know-how. Those who want to replicate this MOD are solely responsible for their outcomes including possible injury.

Battery Power Sensor & Display Dashboard

Part 1: Introduction.

The difference between an ordinary motorcycle vis-a-vis an e-scooter is their FUEL.

All safety related issues starts or ends in this basic reality. And to understand it, we need to compare their peculiarity and differences.

1. Fire Hazard - All vehicles can burn but Lithium battery powered PEV pose a greater fire hazard because the battery itself is flammable and is already a fire hazard by itself. Meaning, a defect in the battery can result in fire on its own. And even if the battery is not defective a short circuit, power surge or even reverse polarity can result in a compromised battery state which can result in fire.

Led based batteries on the other hand are not flammable and a short circuit most often results in a drained or empty battery rather than an open flame.

The petrol of traditional gas fueled engines are safely stored in a gas tank and while it is also flammable, it however requires an external precursor or trigger and will not burn on its own unless ignited intentionally.

2. Electrical Safety & Short Circuit - a Petrol based vehicle uses electricity to start combustion of the engine. Electricity is controlled by an On/Off switch and operate at very low voltages.

Contrast that with an Electric Vehicle who’s engine is a digital controller and is always connected to power and operates through the control of “High” current and “High” voltage. A malfunction in the components if not detected early can result in: (a.) Short Circuit (b.) Damaged Battery/BMS and (c.) Damaged Hub Controllers. All of these results in a non-functional PEV.

It is very important that any electrical issue/s are Observed, Identified and resolved before it compromises the electrical circuitry and cause expensive damage, recurrent repairs, user injury or all the above.

In all PEVs the Vehicle’s battery is front and center. If we can monitor how the power or electricity is used and consumed by the scooter, and have a visual status of the condition of the battery then we distance ourselves from potential trouble.

And this is why I made the next MOD that is the Power Consumption and Battery Monitoring Dashboard.

This Mod has two parts:
1. The Current/Power/Battery Sensing Module - connected to the battery before any other electrical components.
2. The Dashboard or monitoring LCD - where the SOC and computer monitors the status of the power source and how power is used.

Let’s Build another Battery Pack to double the range capacity of XTrack Thunder.

Snap-shots of my Battery Build plus the Installation of a Battery Case.

Here are the technicals:
Original battery - 13S6P
Capacity: 15AH; Voltage: 54.6V; Watt: 819 WH; Single BMS Charge Controller.

New Battery Build: 13S3P x 2 Sets in Parallel. Side-By-Side with Separate BMS Per side. This is for redundancy in case of Battery or BMS Failure there are other independent battery parallels.

Build Capacity: 21AH; Voltage: 54.6V; Watts: 1,146WH; Dual BMS Charge & Power Controller. This Battery is a High Discharge Cell of up to 12AH per cel or 3C+.

Total capacity of Old + New Battery together: 36AH or 1,965+ WH.

To implement:
1. Old Battery was placed on a custom battery Housing attached in front of Steering Drive Pole. The old battery is now outside the scooter Bed.
2. A Power rail was used to connect the new and old Battery that feeds the power to Front and Back Wheel Controller.
3. The new battery is placed at the scooter bed to take the place of the old battery.
4. Both battery packs was Charged to full for Battery Balancing using Low CC and then CV equalized through power cycle. When all the packs are balanced each pack was drained to 45 Volts using precision Electronic Load at CC Mode, then connected together in parallel using the custom Power Rail.

Here are pictures during build process.

Here is the first tested and completed Mod.

Signal System Mod - a control module for Lights and the Horn. The goal is to have a Turn Signal Switch and control the Lights together with the Horn.

Features:

1. Left & Right Signal. During signaling, the light flickers either Left or Right plus a soft audible horn is activated. To do this a 12v line is used and only activate one of the three horn at a time either left or right.

2. It has 12v line for the signaling circuit and a full battery voltage (48v line) for the Loud or Maximum power for Horn and Headlight when switched independently. This means there is a circuit for low Horn voltage and a Full Voltage circuit for the Loud Horn.

3. Flickering lights at the back or rear (the Yellow Eagle Eye) is now replaced by steady lights but now using bi-polar configuration with same eagle-eye form factor where LEDs are configured differently having 2 lights Yellow and White in one bulb that are independent to each other. The white light is signal light and yellow light is running lights that are independently switchable. This will replace all 4 existing original Eagle-eye.

4. Hazard Feature. This allows all lights dedicated to the left and right signal plus the low horn circuit to operate simultaneously in pulses like a blinker.

5. LED Side Strip with independent switch. This allows the LED at the side to be turned on or off and the former switch dedicated to the running lights.

Here are some of the pictures from design to PCB to testing.

Modifications Inprogress:
1. New Battery + New Battery Housing.
2. Signal Lights with Sound and Hazard Feature.
3. Replace the 12v Buck Converter with a higher capacity and more power efficient converter.
4. Volt Meter & Ammeter on the 12v Power Rail to monitor device power usage.
3. Power & Battery Health Monitoring Circuit with LCD Dashboard.
4. USB Fast Charging Module.
5. Additional Lights.
6. New Kick-stand.
7. Power Booster & Current Stabilizer

My goal is to make it as original as possible when possible yet replacing all substandard components.

Comment what you want to see first and I will prioritize posting the most popular mod.

Cheers!

Ever wished that you have some reasonable storage space in your scooter during times of need or necessity?

Fortunately, I just installed a Topbox on my XThunder. I like it a lot because it gives me the option to add storage capacity when there is a need for it. The good thing about it is that it is very easy to detach if not needed.

It is also a good way to take advantage of the heavy duty elevated step board that is unique to XTrack Thunder.

And I'd like to share some pictures of how I made it possible.

Enjoy... 🤠

Owning an electric scooter is probably one of those goals that got your attention during this pandemic. And I won't be surprised if you are reading this post because your are evaluating your options and to learn the pros and cons, including possible pitfalls to be encountered in buying your EV.

Understandably, mobility, and reducing health risks is a priority in this crisis. And with the exceedingly numerous scooter options that are "uso" nowadays, it is but proper that we select those that fit our goals may it be fashion, transportation, fun, economy, or possibly a combination of all of these.

Whatever your intentions... the path is not all blue skies and fair waters as there are dangers lurking and waiting for buyers and users alike. This is the reality in buying Xtrack Thunder online (just like any other scooter sold online), from sellers too elusive to even show their real faces or pictures.

Let me ask you... Did you notice that the sellers use other people's photos or buyer's pictures instead of flashing their faces, stores, or staff in order to woo a sale from unsuspecting customers all over social media?

Di ka ba nag sususpetcha???

Well, with that I welcome you to the DARK SIDE of owning XThunder, allow me to enumerate the ominous realities as we go through it one by one:

1. No Official Distributor Or Service Centers - XThunder is sold by online sellers like AutoKid in tandem with their "re-sellers" who are also in the frontline of every FB group post of potential buyers. Their address, real names, source, and sales details are a mystery that they do not disclose. If you order, they arrive at your doorstep with a box to pay and leave you an item without any documentation on the transaction except a sham unregistered delivery voucher (Some buyers do not even get a voucher). There is no difference to buying a stolen item except it is new and the seller will even ask you to pose on your purchase to document a successful modus. In reality, the sellers are a bunch of Tax Evaders who are trying to earn handsome income without taking responsibility for their business or customers or legal consequences. They just want to earn and take advantage of unsuspecting buyers. Oh, and that warranty... well, you can kiss that goodbye like a scorned breakup from your past relationships.

2. Poor Assembly and Electrical Connections - While the external appearance of Xtrack Thunder is quite impressive, the opposite is true if you look at the internal connections of the wiring. Some of the wires do not even have proper connectors but are merely inserted into another wire's socket. Moreover, spliced connections are not soldered but merely "pinched" together and shrinkwrapped. I know some who experienced outright shorted connections causing the motor to run on its own without even pressing the accelerator. In another case, the owner noticed that the lights simply turned-off while on use and went on again after some elapsed time. While some users experienced power loss that forced them to DIY to find the broken connections and solder it... while the other was forced to look for a technician to diagnose possible issues. I have the impression that the manufacturing has very lax safety standards and misplaced quality control... leaving buyers no choice, but to hope that the unit received is blessed enough to escape possible electrocution and Fires Of Hell especially when the battery gets toasted. You get the picture right?

3. Unavailability of Parts - Electric components are not only combustible, they also fail for various reasons like defects, user negligence, or simply end of service life. As such, these parts are meant to fail and it is only a matter of time. Here lies the problem! Where will you buy a defective part for replacement? Well, for one, there is Lazada or Shopee among others, but then are these replacements really intended for your XThunder? Do you have the technical skills to evaluate what is correct and what part is dangerous or inappropriate? What I'm saying here is that the buyers are on their own to fix or flame their problems. It is good that there are online communities who may share their experiences... but to find what really solves your problem? It is really up to you and in the end, without the appropriate parts and trained service technicians, this scooter is best maintained by a knowledgeable hobbyist who dares plunge to the unknown and willing to sacrifice the cost no matter what. Now, that is a risky game don't you think?

4. Increasing Government Regulation - Stress have that ability do dampen a pleasant spirit. And that is exactly my reaction to rumors on Vehicle Registration and Driver regulations that is looming in LTO. Sadly, it affects those individuals who have no viable transport options and has forced them to use scooters as a last-ditch effort. With the intentions of avoiding COVID, now they have to line-up and risk possible infections using the government's inefficient transaction system. Don't get me worng, the government has all the rights to regulate Electronic Vehicle or any motorized vehicle, but..., BUT WE HAVE A PANDEMIC and we are trying hard to get back our lives to live. It would have been better if government would be more supportive during this time to make sure that all facilities for electric scooters are available and reliable, such as decent bike and scooter lanes before they even contemplated placing more tax burden to struggling commuters seeking alternatives. Why are we really regulating users? To lessen accidents? Improve skills? Professionalize? While at present, scooter riders have no option but to traverse roads that do not even consider them... Roads full of potholes and disorganized un-connected bike lanes. Scooter users who are even prejudiced by other drivers in the streets leading to accidents? Where is the regulations? What is it for? Para sa multa sa enforcer... ngayong pandemic? Ngayong mag papasko at kailangan hanap buhay para maka bawi? I'm sooo lost here. I digress.

So, what do you think? Are these realities not engough to dampen your siprits towards having an XTrack Thunder or any other Electric Scooter you are eying on... Or did you buy one alreadty?

Let me know your thoughts and experience in the comments and I will respond to civil questions and insights on these issues.
