"She had the natural motion and the right build. She was a great little filly she just needed some polish." --Frank "Walk-Trot" Thomas, rider and trainer CH Stonewall Parfait

Even though she was a "straggly mess" when he spotted her in the field, Frank "Walk-Trot" Thomas saw promise in the filly he named CH Stonewall Parfait. Together they broke barriers at the 1965 Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show. Thomas was the first black trainer to show, and win, under saddle.

San Elizario near El Paso is one of the oldest towns in the US, established more than 400 years ago along El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, one of the royal roads that drove Spanish colonization in North America.

The San Elizario Historic District showcases several structures representative of early settlement along the Rio Grande, including Casa Ronquillo (built around 1830), Los Portales (an 1850s home), an 18th-century presidio, and the fort’s chapel.

Begun in 1789, San Elizario Chapel is still active today. After a flood destroyed the original building in 1829, the congregation rebuilt, but then outgrew the new chapel. The present whitewashed adobe building dates from 1877 and has a shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast day is celebrated on December 12.
