👜 Lumière Handmade

Lumiere is an arts and crafts fashion brand centred around helping the visually impaired elderly. Every single one of Lumiere's extensive product array has been meticulously crafted by a blind elderly community members, who, despite visual impairment, have made strikingly beautiful items. All proceeds of the sales they make go back to the blind community, most notably the Hội Người Mù Quận 1 community, aiding them in integrating to a visual-based society through classes on common use items such as cellphones and online applications.

💄MoiEm - lipstick from VietNam

Moi Em is a Vietnamese lipstick brand focused on the production and promotion of organic lipsticks. Unlike their counterparts, Moi Em is concentrated on making a good, organic product, replacing coconut oils common in lipstick formulas with much longer lasting, natural oils such as almond or olive oils. The company has a closed production chain, meaning that all stages of production start and end in Vietnam, keeping the manufacturing process in country and preventing the use of carbon dioxide-producing global shipping methods to move incomplete products around. 👜 On the 21st April, Social ChangeMakers and The Happievent hosted a sustainability market, themed under a "Planet Vs Plastic" motif, which reminds us all to reduce our use of plastics in our day to day lives, especially single-use plastics. The day was characterised by the sustainable nature of every product, outfit and activity present at the market, highlighting the fun and creativity still present even after we stop engaging in unsustainable practices.

We're already halfway through August! Its been rainy, its been hot but its been anything but uneventful.

We started the month with a fun Friday Community Hangout hosted by our UK team members Felix and Alex at Beer Studio at Q2 Terrace, followed by a relaxing Yin Yoga and Guitar, led by Charlie and Hong, with attendants sitting down for a relaxing yet transformative evening of Yoga and wonderful guitar music at the beautiful Satsuma House. Last weekend our 𝑴𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒆́ exhibition + Arts Talk event saw attendees get given a tour of the group art exhibition and an opportunity to talk with two of the creators 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖́𝒔 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆ñ𝒐 𝑹𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔, and 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑭𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒘.

Now, following this we still have a few events before the month ends.

🖌Throwback Thursday!

📸 As our 𝑴𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒆́ exhibition + Arts talk event draws near, we thought we should harken back to our last Arts talk with Arnaud Guibert! During our tour of the "Illuminations and Perspectives" exhibit, participants were taken through an introspective deep dive into the human psyche, aptly represented by the reflections in water. After walking through the gallery and viewing all the art, attendees were given the chance to talk to Arnaud and learn about the thought processes behind his pieces, giving them a heightened understanding of what is born of the intersection between psychology and art.

📕 Our most popular and well attended event series, Human Library SAIGON returns for an 8th run! 👨🏻‍🎨 Our returning host, Mike Kilgore will be walking participants through the works of famed Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky and child prodigy, Aelita Andre, ending in everyone creating their own abstract paintings to be included in a collaborative artwork inspired by Kandinsky's famous piece, "Squares With Concentric Circles."

🎨 Chúng tôi cảm thấy may mắn khi thông báo rằng chúng tôi sẽ tổ chức tour triển lãm 𝑴𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒆́ cuối cùng tại 11:11 Espace! Các tham gia viên triển lãm này sẽ được đưa vào một hành trình của sự thử nghiệm và sự hữu hình, nơi những con phố rối ren và cụ thể của Việt Nam hòa quyện với tinh thần con người tự do, vô hình vốn có trong sự biểu đạt qua nghệ thuật.

🎤 Vào đêm bế mạc triển lãm này, SCM và CHANCE Academy sẽ tổ chức một buổi trò chuyện về nghệ thuật với các tác giả, nơi họ sẽ hướng dẫn chúng ta qua nguồn gốc của các tác phẩm của họ và quá trình suy nghĩ đằng sau những màn trình diễn của họ.

🎨 We feel blessed to announce that we will be hosting the final 𝑴𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒆́ exhibition tour at 11:11 Espace! Participants on this exhibition, will be taken down a road of the experimental and the corporeal, where the entangled and tangible streets of Vietnam are fused with the free, intangible human spirit inherent to expression through art.

🎤 On the closing night of this exhibition. SCM and CHANCE Academy will be hosting an arts talk with the creators, where they will walk us through the origins of their pieces and the thought processes behind their showings.

📖 Throwback to our most recent Human Library, number 7! 📖

⭐ We loved seeing everyone there – conversing, connecting, and changing each other’s perspectives through the power of storytelling. We hope you had as good a time as we did!

📸 For those who might have missed it, check out this recap of the photos we took at the event. Human Library SAIGON #8 is set to happen on the 24th of August, so mark your calendars and hopefully we’ll see you there next time!
