rounds out his 2023 season with arguably his best ride of the entire GP series. Fighting with the lead pack the entire race until a small mistake trying to squeak an inside line with settle Peters in the final spot on the podium. Zach felt right at home in the deep gnarly conditions- reminiscent of those early morning qualifying sessions in AMA Pro Motocross. In addition Zach secured the Overall Championship in the Open Pro Sport class and will be running the #1 plate for the 2024 season. 🏆⚔️
Hell of a way to close out the year, Zach!

locked horns with some tough competition at The Malvern GP - utilizing local track knowledge and seeing a big dollar signs, Maley would drag Thad Duvall into the deep end. Ultimately losing the lead on the final lap taking home second place. Maley keeps an excellent season rolling and has his sights set on ISDE here in a few weeks!
Great ride Trevor!

pulls down the win at The Malvern GP - gnarly track conditions combined with little seat time for Duvall made for a tough day at the office. The GNCC veteran dug deep and got the work done to take home some lunch money. 💰

Our final race of the 2023 in the books AND capping off our second season. It’s hard to know even where to begin with this post. For as chaotic and stressful as running a race series is - The MERP team takes so much pride in what we do, we are harder on ourselves than anyone else could be and it’s simply because we want to present such a well oiled and fun racing series. We set the bar high for ourselves and we’re always looking to raise it.
Again, a million times - thank you to our racers, who at this point are friends and family. We finished off the season with a 360 entry day - after considerable rain the day before. You guys showed up and we tried like hell to give you all a fun track to go racing on. The Malvern MX crew crushed the prep for the hand Mother Nature dealt us.
Conditions today and I heard it from the guys that know - about as close to a pro national as you can get. Deep, muddy, loamy, ruts, gnarly, bumps, chuck holes and more. I think it’s safe to say today shaped up to be one of most physically demanding courses yet. Man vs. machine vs. the course. When tracks like todays rear their heads - excellent racing comes with it. The technical bike skills shine and raw speed can take a back seat. Trading mistakes and position, navigating the technical deep ruts and constantly changing traction. Today was a challenging course - and that’s one of the reasons we race motorcycles - because they’re tough.
Thad Duvall on comeback from a broken back pulled in the big bread in Open Pro Sport - not without challenge as Trevor Maley and Zach Peters gave the Coastal GasGas rider all he wanted and more. 35 minutes of war? Indeed.
We handed out a lot of hardware today - season end hardware and normal race day hardware. We’d love to see some photos of your plaques in their forever home. The red plates are here to stay because they look so trick. Congratulations to all of our champions - those red plates are EARNED.
We had some amazing vintage iron scattered around the pits today - more to come on the winner of that. Maybe one of the hardest fought battles of the day was the Chili Cook Off! Spicy chili would take the top step. White chicken would land off the podium…..ouch.
Another excellent season of racing. Plain and simple. More learning and growing for us as race promoters. Every race this year went better than the last. We made more mistakes and learned more lessons. Most of all - we had a damn good time racing motorcycles.
Here’s to 2023 - year 2 in the books. 🍻
*Still working through some results - equipment malfunctions created an absolute nightmare for our scoring department - as soon as we have results complete we’ll get um on website and let you know.*
Game on today! 🏈🏁
Deep loamy, rutty, EPIC fall conditions. ⚔️😤
Gates are open - Sign up is rolling. 🚂
The Malvern GP - Sunday October 15th
Pictures everyone is looking for! 🤳
Course is shaping up to be excellent tomorrow - dropping the ripper on the motocross track in the morning. Leaving the track packed in worked like a charm. Deep loam and rutty conditions on the motocross track. 😮💨
The woods got a much needed drink with dry dirt just under the crust. (Shovel picture is in the woods)
The turn track is the most wet section of the course - worst case scenario the Malvern MX crew will drop the dozer blade and push off any excess mud.
Expect deep and loamy conditions for The Malvern GP. ⚔️
It’s going to be a barn burner to close out the year. 🫡
We’re going racing.
We are making the early call to cancel Open Practice tomorrow with the projected rain in the forecast.
The track is rolled in and ready for the rain and the woods are thirsty. We want to have the best race course on Sunday and wanted to give everyone plenty of heads up. ☂️
Gates will open at 4PM and we will have early registration rolling. ✌🏻
Sunday is looking like a proper fall GP. 💪🏻🍂🍁
Chili too be cooked - vintage bikes to be showed (and shined)

We have all eyes on the same weather apps y’all are looking at 👀🌧️🌤️
The track crew at Malvern has sealed up the motocross track and the turn track and cut swales to let the water run off the track in low areas.
If you have raced any off-road in Ohio lately the woods loops are thirsty and could use a drink to keep down the powder and dust.
As of right now practice is on but the final decision will be made EARLY Saturday morning - if/when the rain comes - we will keep the track sealed up to preserve the racecourse for Sunday’s racing action. (It’s not looking good for Saturday practice)
Sunday is planned to be all systems go and GO racing. 🏁
We’ll bump MERP fest back if need be and roll the good times into Sunday.
We’re taking all the steps we can to have an excellent track on Sunday - we’ll keep ya in the loop. 🫡
Little Saturday rain never hurt - let’s go racing. 🐕🐕🐕

Winning the Vintage Iron Show and Shine OR the Chili Cook-Off 🏍️🧑🍳🏆
No chance anyone is hard enough to win both. 👨🏼🚀🤔
Rules are simple - use a lot of SC1 and have a rig older than 2002. Bring your own stand and be ready to tell some war stories about your build. 🫡
Chili Cook-Off will go on during the bike show - bring a cup of your best for the judges to sample. Winner take all. (All as in fame, glory and eternal bragging rights) 🥇
After practice get ready to have some fun looking back on the 2023 GP season. We’re here to celebrate another successful year of racing with our friends and families. 🏁👨👩👧👦🏡

Faces at the Races - Article 1
Words: Bierbower
Photo: Bierbower
I’m working on a string of articles about some of the faces I met this season at our races - enjoy.
Lauren Gregory - 65cc Junior
If you would ask me who my favorite riders….. I would hit you with my classic line - Brock Sellards, Darryn Durham, Jeremy McGrath, Doug Henry. Included on that list I would add Lauren Gregory - yep the little 65cc Junior racer from Logan, OH. I met Lauren and her parents at the Beans GP. The groms in the 9AM race had one of the gnarliest courses of the day. A slick greasy muddy woods loop with a deep loamy motocross track made for a 35 minute long battle with the course for the little wheel’d 65cc machines. I met Lauren and her Dad on monster mountain with the other 65cc parents picking up bikes and eating roost pushing little fenders up the climb. Lauren conquered the technical hill climb and entire course lap after lap. 4 laps! Lauren is a beast - she is a fierce competitor and the nastiest course of the season proved no match for her. In the 10AM race grown men on big bikes would throw in the towel when 15 minutes earlier Lauren made it look easy on a 65. If you needed any more evidence that Lauren is faster, cooler and tougher than you are here you go. Lauren came back to race The Malvern GP after a broken collar bone in the middle of summer. (!!!) Her doctor released her back to racing just a few days before. Not to mention her Shift Gear, Bell Helmet, paired with Oakley goggles - an easy pick for a lit kit award this season. Long story long - Lauren is a great kid and her family is the coolest in the pits. They support Lauren and her brother Nolan’s racing with a unique program - they race both motocross and off-road and I see all of the bike skills they learn racing different disciplines shine through in Lauren’s riding style. She’s growing into an excellent racer and more importantly with the support system around her - an excellent human being.
Joe Slechta - C Class Champion
Waynesburg, OH
Wednesday November 16th
Words: Bierbower
Photos: Joe Slechta’s Instagram
I wanted a guy like Joe to win this title. Why? No wins - one podium and two top 10’s.
I can feel you gathering the feathers and heating up the tar - sit tight let me explain before you light me up in the comments.
Joe Slechta of Findlay, OH won this title how I would want a C class title to be won. Dungey style - with CONSISTENCY. Joe landed on the box at the first round at Beans Bike Park with a third place. Followed up with two more finishes in the top 10 to pull down the title. I hit up Joe on Instagram to find out a little more about him and how his season went. He informed me he’s mostly an Off-Road guy but likes the GP style courses because they have a little bit of everything. His favorite course of the season was the Malvern GP - he noted he had many good things to say about the motocross track and the woods loop had some tighter sections that still formed multiple lines that allowed for passing. Joe’s weapon of choice is a YZ250 2 stroke - being a man of class myself I respect this decision and unofficially dub the YZ a machine designed specifically to win MERP championships. I can see how Beans played into his favor landing Joe on the podium - the woods shaped up to be a gnarly battle for man and machine. His off-road and hillclimbing skills played into Joe’s favor and that score would mean big points for his championship campaign.
I’m proud to see the C class title go to a racer like Joe. He’s the type of racer this series was made for. Guys that have fun riding their dirt bike. Joe strung together consistent races when other guys ripped off wins but ultimately couldn’t hold it together for the whole season. Congratulations on your title Joe! Looking forward to having you back at the races next season!
To our sponsors,
Now that the racing season done and dusted we want to take a few minutes and say thank you to the people that helped make this show happen.
Our sponsors. The companies that stepped up to support the GP series in our first season were a massive part of our success. These companies believed in us and motorcycle racing enough to step up with support to help get us off the ground - for this we will be forever grateful. You believed in what our series could be before we even had any numbers to prove it.
We put their names in front of a lot of eyes this season - more eyes than we expected. We ask you the racer - when it’s time to buy a new bike, order parts, gear, tires, wheels, or graphics - use these companies. Without the support of the industry race series cannot happen and not just our race series. All race series have a laundry list of sponsors that support racing and those companies deserve our support.
MERP has brought on companies outside of racing as well. Small businesses run by people that support motorcycles even without a motorcycle product to sell. Everyday life happens and whenever the chance comes to support a company that helps you go racing - spending your money there keeps the cycle going. People buy things everyday - they need services everyday. Money spent within motocross is money well spent - that money comes back around to you when you spend it in the right places.
The racing community is a tight knit one - we spend our weekends staying in campers, vans and trucks. Almost all of our sponsors are racers themselves - and many of them raced at our races each weekend. These are our people. Spend your money with these companies - you’re investing in racing.
Thank you to each of our sponsors - thank you for an excellent season and your support. We hope to keep blaring your name over the loud speaker next season and more sending customers your way.
Thank you, thank you.

Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP Wiseco Powersports Micheal Meyer pulls down a win in the Mini 1 class along with some impressive results in the big bike race. Meyer hit an insane growth spurt this summer growing what seems like 6 inches. The super mini is looking more like a pit bike at this point but it’s not slowing him down. Meyer dominated Mini 1 - like crashed in the creek and still had plenty of time to get back on the course and not lose position dominance. Impressive ride to say the least and Dirt Troop is already taking to the big bikes quite nicely. Big things coming from the kid. Stamp it. Natalie Diane
Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP Wiseco Powersports Mason Zoelle finds himself on the podium at the Honda Hills GP - in Saturday practice I noticed Mason really looking comfortable on the motocross track. Controlling the bike in the air and hitting his marks in the corners. Zoelle is turning into a 5-tool rider and he really was clicking with the Honda Hills course. One left and we’re looking for strong results to finish out the season. Oh and a 125. 😂💪🏻 Good ride Mason! Matt Zoelle Sandy Zoelle
Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP Wiseco Powersports Coming out on top of the greatest PW50 race to date - Jaxon Vencl would absolutely send the final 3 table tops on the motocross track to make the last turn Hail Mary pass work and take home a #1 plate from The Honda Hills GP! With a never give up attitude Jaxon dig deep to get the win - proud parent moment. 💪🏻 I’m guessing Star Racing Yamaha already has a 25 year contract in the mail to get Jaxon locked into a 450 factory ride. 😎😂 Stacy Crute
Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP Wiseco Powersports Weston Sanders pulled down 2nd place in one of the best PW50 battles we have seen all season long! Changing leaders multiple times throughout the race Sanders would use his woods skills to pull away from the rest of the pack. Good ride Weston! Lining up a race against Dad to settle this who’s faster debate! Devin Sanders
Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP @wisecopistoninc JoJo Cunningham laid down some blistering laps on his way to another big win in Open Pro Sport at The Honda Hills GP. A holeshot and sprint for a quick gap put Cunningham in the money early off in the race. Cunningham fresh off of arm pump surgery is building a serious base and is looking to come out swinging for the last 3 GNCC’s of the season. Schedule allowing - we hope to see Jojo join us for the final race of the season and fight to get his name on one more MERP check to close out the season. 🏦 JoJo Cunningham
Wiseco Post Race Interviews - Honda Hills GP Wiseco Powersports Zach Peters finds himself on the Open Pro Sport podium once again this season with another impressive third place finish. With a strategic ride Peters would let the race come to him and find himself in the money by the time the checkered flag flew. With some time to heal up a bum foot I’m looking for big things from Zach at The Malvern GP. This dude is on a roll and all the puzzle pieces are coming together. Zach Peters
Carl Schlacht letting that Honda CRF450RW eat in the first grass track section at the Crow Canyon GP. We have more turn track action coming for the Grears GP. August 28th. 😎
Let’s take this show on the road! The MERP trail crew is getting ready for the Grears GP coming up on August 28th. There has been a lot of hype building and for good reason. The rolling hills, fresh trail, and premium motocross track make Grears one of our most anticipated venues this season. ⛰🏁 It sounds like there is a chance of having an open practice on the motocross track only (the woods loop will be closed) (walk or mtb only) Saturday before the Grears GP - this sets up a perfect weekend of riding and camping for our racers. We’ve been chomping at the bit for this one. 🦍 Racers are gonna race and fun will be had by all. Grears GP - August 28th Grear’s Motorsports Park
