Today we celebrate Kimchi on what is known as “Kimchi Day” in Korea!

The dish is produced in especially large amounts during November and December. This is when kimjang (kimchi curing) takes place in preparation for winter. During this time, family members and neighbors gather in each other’s kitchens to cook together, trade recipes, and share stories

Traditionally it was made once a year, enough quantity to last families one year supply of kimchi!

My love for cooking and food was evident at a young age. On completing my hospitality course in Manipal I joined a big hotel kitchen - which I didn’t pursue because let’s say hotels weren’t my thing. I enjoy more personal and intimate cooking methods/sessions.

I then joined operations and worked in various companies. Was good at it and did well but something was amiss. I knew deep down inside that I wanted to cook and feed people.

After many years of struggling with myself and the whole thing of getting a fixed salary - safety net dilemma i said let’s just give it a shot! With a little push from my close ones and

I started with ghar ka khaana in Goa, it gave me the liberty to be creative. I didn’t follow any recipes because I knew flavours and what went with what - that’s a skill I honed. My clients loved the food, stuck with me for over a year.

I always wanted to do something in food and showcase my creativity. With the confidence my clients gave me I went onto experimenting with Korean food in Goa - it was missing here and my condiments! And slowly but surely grew my clientele. There was no stopping from there.

It’s not all easy to grown a business but if you have the heart and soul I can tell you it will grown itself. Especially with food and how things have changed for chefs/home chefs in the last few years.

Also, more people need to go what they really love doing❤️

I just read an article about how Korean food is gaining popularity in India!

As I continue to grow my knowledge and specialise in this cuisine, I can say with confidence that what I make is bang on. And my clients agree!

First it was my Bibimbap, and now it’s my Bulgogi - one of my favourites.

Bulgogi is usually a meat/mushroom dish, marinated in soy sauce, then grilled. It’s a delicious mix of sweet and salty. Usually wrapped in lettuce, with rice and ssmajang, or had on a bed of rice topped with a fried egg along side kimchi!

Korean food, I believe, is more than a meal; it is an experience.

My love for cats and food is where I, Shruti come into the picture.

Zahvi would like to raise money to help the Cat Sanctuary Goa run by Sonia.

Sonia, who founded and runs Cat Sanctuary Goa, fosters over a hundred cats. She has also nursed stray's and injured cats back to health, and has helped hundreds more find loving homes. The Cat Sanctuary also provides a temporary home or hostel for the cats whose people are traveling.

And while she does this out of pure love, it can sometimes be hard to pay the bills and keep these little ones fed and cared for.

*The Bibimbap Bowl Benefit, on 31st July*, Saturday, is to both raise *awareness of Cat Sanctuary, while also raising funds to help Sonia*.

There will be two pick up points in North Goa, the location of which will be shared with you a day prior.
