I stumbled upon a profound truth in the unlikeliest of places – on a bus in Mexico City. As I gazed out the window, a vibrant message caught my eye: ‘Vivir es increíble!’ (Life is incredible!)

In that moment, something shifted within me. Those three simple words echoed deeply, reminding me of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us.

Meet Marisela Nieves Zea Chaluma, a shining embodiment of tradition, culture, and connection to the natural world. Born in Querétaro, Mexico, Marisela’s life is a testament to the beauty of heritage and the power of community.

As a grandmother of the Moon Dance, Marisela’s journey is deeply rooted in the rich cultural traditions of Mexico. Her training at the Círculo Colyoxauqui in Querétaro laid the foundation for her growth as a dancer, healer, and spiritual guide. For over four years, Marisela has been a guiding light for the Mirror Moon Dance in Chacala, Nayarit, sharing her wisdom and passion with others.

Marisela’s connection to the natural world is profound. Growing up in a family of farmers, she learned the value of living in harmony with the earth. Her parents’ example instilled in her a deep love and respect for the land, which she carries forward in her work today. As a traditional Conchera dancer and leader of the ‘Los Hijos del Maíz’ (Children of the Corn) dance group, Marisela honors the sacred bond between humans and the earth.

Marisela’s spiritual journey is equally remarkable. She spent 13 years supporting the prayers in a Wirrarica community called Taimarita, making offerings and caring for a jicara for the corn god. Her experiences have given her a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things. Today, Marisela shares the ancient wisdom of the temazcal, guiding others through this transformative ceremony of rebirth.

In Marisela’s presence, one cannot help but feel a sense of awe, reverence, and connection to the world around us. Her love, wisdom, and generosity of spirit are a beacon of hope, inspiring us to cherish our heritage, honor the earth, and cultivate compassion and understanding.

As I bask in the warmth of this breathtaking sunset, my heart overflows with joy, love, and gratitude. I’m reminded that despite our differences, we’re all united by our shared humanity.

I’ve been blessed to connect with incredible souls from around the world, including someone who gifted me a beautiful, meaningful bandana. This thoughtful gesture has touched my heart, and I love how the vibrant colors and design add a pop of personality to my hat.

This person also lent me the book “Un Curso de Milagros” (A Course in Miracles), a spiritual masterpiece that offers profound insights into the nature of reality, love, and inner peace. I’m grateful for their kindness and generosity. What’s even more special is that this marks a personal milestone for me - it’s the first time I’ve read a book in Spanish!

These experiences remind me that sharing small gestures, gifts, or even a book can create profound connections between people. It’s a beautiful way to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and inspire each other.
