Seven years ago, I took a leap of faith and stepped into the unknown, traveling to León, Mexico to meet a special person. Little did I know, this journey would forever change the trajectory of my life.

As I stood before the majestic angel wings near the church, a young girl captured my photo. I was a whirlwind of emotions, dreams, and uncertainty. Yet, in that moment, I felt an unshakeable sense of euphoria.

Fast-forward to today, I’m back in Mexico, reunited with the loved ones who became my Mexican family of heart. We’ve shared laughter, tears, and countless moments over the past seven years, forging an unbreakable bond.

To commemorate this full-circle moment, I’ve taken a new photo in the same spot where it all began – in front of those iconic angel wings. Yet, this time, I stand as a transformed individual, shaped by the experiences and connections of the past seven years.

One of my greatest joys is that I’ve fulfilled my dream of learning Spanish. Today, I can proudly say that I speak Spanish, a language that has opened doors to new cultures, connections, and understanding.

This experience embodies the spirit of my United Earth project: celebrating our shared humanity, embracing diversity, and fostering connections that transcend borders and cultures.

As I celebrate this reunion, I’m filled with joy, love, and a deep appreciation for life’s surprises. This is happiness: being open to the unknown, embracing growth, and cherishing the beauty of human connection.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I’ve always had a blast (literally!) watching fireworks, but I never thought I’d get to see them up close and personal... like, REALLY close! haha

But in all seriousness, I feel incredibly lucky to have experienced the richness of cultures around the world. From vibrant festivals to breathtaking landscapes, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the beauty of human connection and creativity.

As I look back on my travels, I’m reminded of the magnificent humans I’ve met along the way. Each of them has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I’m grateful for the lessons they’ve taught me.

So as we step into a new year, I want to wish you all a spark of inspiration, a dash of creativity, and a whole lot of love. May your eyes shine bright, just like mine , and may you spread your light to every corner of the world.

Today, I want to share with you an unforgettable experience I had during the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. This ancient festival is a time-honored tradition that honors the lives of loved ones who have passed on, and it’s a testament to the country’s rich cultural heritage.

As I walked through the vibrant streets, I was struck by the sheer scale and beauty of the festivities. The air was filled with the sweet scent of marigolds, the sound of lively music, and the smell of delicious traditional foods. There were so many things happening at once that I didn’t know where to look!

But then, something caught my eye - a magnificent bull, adorned with fireworks, dancing and running through the crowds! I was mesmerized by the sight, and my eyes shone with wonder.

This tradition is known as the “Pamplona de los Mu***os” or “Running of the Dead,” and it’s a unique and exciting part of the Day of the Dead celebrations in certain regions of Mexico. The bull, symbolizing strength and fertility, is adorned with fireworks, which represent the light and warmth of life.

As I watched this incredible spectacle, I felt a deep sense of joy and connection to the people and culture around me. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating life, honoring our ancestors, and embracing the beauty and richness of our diverse cultural heritage.

So let’s come together to celebrate our differences and find common ground in our shared humanity. Let’s honor the lives of those who have come before us, and let’s cherish the time we have with those who are still with us.

Yesterday, I shared with you my experience of discovering a giant skeleton from afar during the Days of the Dead celebration. Today, I’m excited to share with you a closer look at another magnificent skeleton that left me in awe.

As I watched this skeleton pass by, I felt a sense of wonder and awe. These towering figures are truly imposing, and when they’re up close, it’s an unforgettable experience. But what really struck me was the reminder that, just like these skeletons, we too can rise above and make our mark.

Let us be inspired by the spirit of the Days of the Dead, and let us remember to live life to the fullest, to be brave, and to make every moment count.

As I walked through the streets during the Days of the Dead celebration, I felt a sense of wonder. The parade was filled with music, dancing, and fireworks. My eyes were wide with excitement, taking in all the colors and sounds.

In that moment, I felt like a child again. The celebration reminded me that no matter how old we get, we should never lose our sense of curiosity and awe.

The Days of the Dead are a special time to reconnect with our inner child, let go of our worries, and allow ourselves to be amazed. They remind us that life is precious and that every moment is an opportunity to fill our hearts with love, joy, and wonder.

Honoring the Ancestors: A Night to Remember in Oaxaca’s Cemetery

I had the privilege of witnessing a breathtaking spectacle in Oaxaca’s cemetery on Día de los Mu***os. This majestic character, adorned with vibrant makeup and an illuminated headdress, left me in awe.

His Aztec-inspired attire and skeletal decorations transported me to a world where ancient traditions meet modern celebrations. The Dance of the Feather, a traditional Zapotec ritual, came to mind as I gazed upon his majestic presence.

This powerful figure embodies the essence of Día de los Mu***os: honoring the ancestors, embracing life and death, and celebrating the cycle of existence.

As I wandered through the vibrant streets of Mexico, I was captivated by a figure that seemed to embody the essence of the country’s rich cultural heritage. A person dressed as Quetzalcoatl, the legendary feathered serpent deity, stood before me, radiating an aura of mystique and wonder.

Quetzalcoatl, a revered figure in Mesoamerican mythology, is often depicted as a serpent with feathers, representing the fusion of earth and sky, darkness and light. His story dates back to the ancient civilizations of the Aztecs and Mayans, who revered him as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and creation.

According to legend, Quetzalcoatl was a powerful priest-king who brought civilization to humanity, teaching the arts, agriculture, and the secrets of the universe. His wisdom and compassion earned him the adoration of his people, who saw him as a manifestation of the divine.

As I gazed upon the Quetzalcoatl disguise, I felt the weight of history and the power of cultural symbolism. This character represents the harmony between opposing forces, reminding us that light and darkness, chaos and order, are intertwined and interdependent.

The Catrinas, symbols of Dia de los Mu***os, represent the country’s rich cultural heritage. Each one tells a story, and I was mesmerized by the diverse interpretations.

As I wandered through the streets, I felt like a kid in a fairy tale, my eyes sparkling with wonder. Every Catrina was a work of art, reflecting Mexico’s blend of tradition and creativity.

Gratitude Beyond Words

“As I navigate the vibrant streets of Oaxaca, I’m reminded of the profound value of human connection. Every person I meet holds a unique place in my heart, and I’m grateful for each encounter.

Recently, I found myself embraced by a new family here. Their warmth and acceptance touched me deeply. They fed me, listened to me, and made me feel loved. As I struggled to express my gratitude in Spanish, I asked the mother, “How can I thank you enough?” She smiled and said, “Muchas gracias” (thank you very much). But I knew that wasn’t enough.

I wanted to convey the depth of my appreciation. She looked at me with kindness and said, “Un abrazo” (an hug). In that moment, I understood. A hug is stronger than words. It’s a language that transcends borders and languages.

Today, I want to share this wisdom with you. Let’s cherish the people around us. Let’s show gratitude through actions, not just words.

Take a moment to hug someone you love, someone who’s made a difference in your life. It’s a simple yet powerful gesture.
