33 ranunculus.

That’s what it takes to create a classic 10 x 10 inch hand-tied spiral bouquet—no filler, just pure, fluttery perfection. It's way heavier than it looks.

You might remember this style trending a while back, and it made a splash again when Demi Lovato recently carried a similarly shaped pink ranunculus bouquet down the aisle. Clean, sculptural, and all about the bloom.

Curious what a bouquet like this actually costs?

Here’s the simple pricing breakdown I use when estimating client work (though this will vary slightly from florist to florist):
• Wholesale flower cost × 3.5
• Supplies × 2.5
• + 30% design fee

Ballpark? Around $400.
For a bouquet that’s all heart and all flower 🤍

Side note: it made me weirdly happy to see that the 'really good' candles I purchased for my client's wedding still looked lovely when we wrapped up for the night.

Last week brought a perfect spring wedding in full bloom. 🌸

A & S chose to invest a large portion of their floral budget into lush aisle meadow arrangements and a complementary installation on the gazebo at the charming , where they exchanged vows. As you can see the designs were full of bright, joyful color and had a whimsical, organic structure that brought the whole ceremony space to life.

After the ceremony, all of these pieces were repurposed to really flower up the reception—placed in front of the sweetheart table, around the raised DJ platform, and more—so their budget went a long way.

I'll be sharing more from this beautiful day soon, but for now, I'll just leave this little moment here.

It’s Earth Day—this one is important and so close to my heart.

Keep protecting the plants and animals that share this planet with us. They need us more than ever.

Sustainability matters. Kindness matters. Compassion matters. We matter. And we need a healthy Earth for our children and future generations to grow up in.

Take a moment today to step outside. Breathe deeply, feel the air on your skin, and notice the new life blooming all around you. It's a gift. A free gift from nature to you.

We are always more stronger than we think. We can make a difference.

*Photo of a Monarch butterfly on my neighbor’s Phlox, taken last summer. I have not seen this many Monarchs since I was a kid in California. It feels like magic—and it reminds me just how much beauty we’re at risk of losing.

Free urn – neighbor had it out with a pile of unwanted whatnot.

It was cold and rainy yesterday afternoon, so I gathered things and filled it up. It’s got holes in it, doesn’t hold water—but it was great fun while it lasted. And a nice distraction, so thank you good neighbor for the broken urn.

What would we do without art and love? I don’t want the answer.

Fun fact: This thing is huge—36" H x 42" W. I measured it before I took it apart.

Hope everyone is doing okay. 💛

I love red florals and this one was one for the books! ☀️🌙

Be sure to scroll to the very end for the most delightful surprise 'red' guest!

Jaz and Tyler's fall wedding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains was a love letter to rich color, golden light, and all the things that make a wedding feel soulful-music, the moon and sun, and the magic of the season.

Their ceremony florals featured a gold round arch with a crescent-shaped design-symbolizing the sun and moon in perfect balance.

The personal flowers were lush and dramatic: Black Magic red roses, deep purple calla lilies trailing naturally in the bride's bouquet, bright red ball dahlias, strawflower, butterfly ranunculus, pepperberry, and more. It was a dream to create in these bold, romantic tones.

After they said "I do," we moved the floral arch behind the head table, where a lush garland of greenery and flowers ran down the center-dotted with taper and votive and pillar candles to cast a warm glow through the evening. (I wish Iremembered the exact length-it felt endless in the best way.)

Each guest table held a fall-inspired centerpiece, and tucked among the blooms were a few of my own homegrown marigolds -little pieces of my heart in their day.

Weddings like this are why I do what I do. I believe in flowers that tell a story, and in bringing your vision to life in a way that feels deeply personal.

This one was unforgettable! 🦊

Earthy inspired neutrals with spring florals + foraged dried Elements

So, I’m doing something I’ve never done before—and I’m not sure why. I’ve always created and experimented like crazy with florals and design. But I haven’t shared the majority of those creations, because it was my little world of learning.

I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few years—none of us do. I purchased my retail flower shop, Carbon Valley Florist, in Frederick, Colorado on April 15, 2009. I got a fire-sale deal on it because of the recession, and it bled money for four years. I burned through every penny of my savings to bring it to profitability in 2013, because I was young and failure wasn’t an option! :)

Would I make that choice again, knowing what I know now—how much it costs to sustain a business that sells something no one needs to survive during economic hardship? I don’t know the answer to that question. Sadly, there’s a good chance many of us florists may not make it through a future recession—or worse.

Here’s where I’m at right now: I’m just going to share my joy of flowers with you. The asthetic of my page is going to shift some. The things I create—I’m going to share them. Because I’m in love with botanicals and the art of design. And above all, I believe that love will still have relevance in our new American landscape.
