Hydrangeas Wreath
I came across this hydrangeas wreath and thought it was easy enough. This is what I learned after a few failed attempts to attach the hydrangeas:
☝️You cannot just slide the stem into the straw base, it will break. Make a hole first.
✌️Working with fresh cut hydrangeas at the right stage is easier than using already dried flowers. The flowers and stems are less brittle and not as breakable.
✌️☝️ Don't take the plastic wrap off the straw base like I did, it is too messy and it will keep losing pieces of straw forever.
When I couldn't insert the dried stems without breaking them I tried using a glue gun. It did not work well either. Then I switched to fresh flowers, made the hole first with my clippers and cut the stem pretty short. After these adjustments, it turned out to be an easy wreath project.

Arranging your sunflower bunch - Part 2 Not ground breaking but simple and effective. Use a container (mason jar for example) inside your bigger vase. This can help went the vase you want to use is too big or it is not waterproof. You can also add greenery from your garden (for example hydrangea foliage). Have fun arranging your flowers! 🌻
Arranging your sunflower bunch - Part 1 A vase with a not too wide mouth will help keep your flowers up right and you would need less stems to fill it. I like to start by trimming the stems to about twice the height of the vase. Then I will keep trim a few stems to add dimension with flowers at different heights. It is common for sunflowers to have bending necks, and it is okay... it adds movement to the arrangement. The opening of the vase I used here is 2.75" and the height is 8.5" (it is from Ikea). Do sunflower heads bending over drive you crazy? 😂 It like to have some in the bunch that are more straight to use in the middle.#614sunflowers #ohioflowerfarm #localflowers #614flowers #plaincityohio #dublinohio #hilliardohio #columbusohio #simpleflowers

Outsourcing flowers as a flower farmer. How does it feel? When you choose to be a flower farmer there is a special feeling of selling the flowers you grew from tiny seeds or plugs, the flowers you took care for months or years, the flowers you trust and know... but sometimes opportunities to bring joy through flowers come up and you don't have enough flowers or you are missing a particular flower, do you pass up on these opportunities? When I was asked to do yesterday's flower bar I was excited and my first question was, "What is the date?" "First weekend of June" Oh, no! I won't have much, it is my second year, I am building my perennial beds, my peonies are new, I don't grow in greenhouses, .... Call me back in August 🥺 when I am swimming in dahlias...Flower bars are an experience I wanted to try and I did not want to pass up the chance. So I asked if the client would be okay with me outsourcing the flowers from other local farms. And it was okay, and I did! It felt a bit strange at first but as I planned, reached out to other flower farms, selected the flowers, and ordered all the other items for the experience I realized that I was still bringing my experience as flower farmer to create something beautiful. I was supporting another local farm and bringing the joy of flowers to people to help celebrate a happy moment! And it still felt special to share these flowers. If you are a flower farmer and sometimes you need more... quantity, a special focal flower, greenery, ... I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to other farms that could help. We cannot grow it all! Drop a ❤️ in the coments for these amazing @sunnymeadows blooms! And if you are a flower farmer, have you outsourced flowers or foliage before? Tell me about it! What is important to you when you outsource flowers?
It is Gnocchi Day! The 29th of each month... did you know? In Argentina families gather to eat "ñoquis" for good luck on the 29s. We may have them more often, just because my kids love them so much and when they were little it was always a fun recipe to make with them. I had a couple of requests for the recipe the other day when a posted gnocchi making in my stories and I thought that a quick video will make it easier to explain. So here it goes! Gnocchi Recipe - 3 cups of mashed potatoes (yellow potatoes or Yukon gold) seasoned with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Must be cold.- 2 eggs and a yolk- all purpose flower as needed (about 2-3 cups)Combine mashed potatoes and eggs. Add 1 cup of flour to start. Continue adding flour until the dough has a nice consistency and is manageable with your fingers. Dust flour on the counter, work the dough. The right consistency is hardest part to explain, if you add too much flour the gnocchi becomes denser instead of light and fluffy as it is supposed to be. I would say use the least amount of flour needed to be able to work the dough. Don't over work it. You want to simply fold the dough over itself and then gently press down flat with your hand, repeating only as much as is necessary to completely incorporate the flour.Roll into dough snakes, cut into 1/2 inch pieces and create the ridges by rolling on a fork (there is also a wood tool to do this that I don't have). Set them on a plate dusted with flour as you go. Use a big pot with plenty of water. Add salt, bring water to boil. Add the gnocchi to boiling water, stir once and stay right there! Once all the gnocchi are floating, take them out. This is quick! Tip - If you took too long to make them and gnocchi are getting soft and sticky by the time you are ready to boil them freeze them for a few minutes before boiling. Serve with any sauce you like, my kids like them in just cream and with lots of parmesan cheese .Enjoy!
Flowers for the weekend
Happy Saturday!
