Girls and Parents,
This is something we should be shooting for every year. We work hard on the mat but should work our brains harder in the classroom. It was disheartening hearing many of the schools we wrestle against getting their names called out and recognized and knowing that Schuyler Girls Wrestling would never be announced.
We can do a better job, as a team, on the academic side. This is going to become one of my top priorities as a coach to help prepare you for your future endeavors. Wrestling will make you tough, fight through the hard times, carry yourself with pride, but your brains will ensure you will live a better life because you will use it to gain respect for yourself and from your peers. Your mind will help you advance farther faster.
This all starts the first day of school. Sharpen your minds Girls, it is what will help us rise to the top.
I love all of you and want nothing but success in your future. 💚

Lauren and Maribel represented Schuyler very well. Maribel had a tough weight and was in every match and almost had a couple of more wins but still finished 6-5. Lauren went 10-1 and is a silver all-american. The last match she was able to face off against the one girl that gave her a loss and Lauren pinned her in the 1st period. She was pretty pumped.
It was amazing to watch all the Nebraska girls on all 4 teams compete at a high level and perform very well against girls from across the US.
Maribel and Lauren's team, the Black Widows, really dominated their division out scoring their opponents on average 68-13.
All these girls will never forget this experience.
I am so proud of the Schuyler girls and their national champion teammates.

These girls did well out in Iowa and are still working hard to compete in Florida at Disney Duals.
We have set up an account at CMI in Columbus. If you have any type of scrap metal that you are taking in and would like to make to make a donation to our program to help pay for the girls way. The account is called Lady Luck. It will be open until the end of June.
We are still collecting batteries, but would also pick up copper and brass. Just send a message through Facebook or text me at 308-379-9610 and we will ty to find a ti.e to come collect them.
We have had some generous people make some donations and have collected $595 of the $4100 that is needed for the trip. Thank you to all that have donated.

Maribel Gonzalez went 7-1 and Lauren Wemhoff went 6-2 for the weekend bothe were silver All Americans. I am so proud of these 2. They really displayed grit and sportsmanship.

Great job was.done by all the girls. The team was tough. And it was an exciting and awarding day.

These 2 had a pretty good morning at the Twin River Nationals in Des Moines. Lauren went 4-1 and Maribel went 5-0. Their team Nebraska Spiderwomen also went 5-0 duals out scoring their opponents 374 to 23. The team only dropped 4 matches all day.
They will have 3 more duals tomorrow morning.

These two young ladies (Maribel Gonzalez and Lauren Wemhoff) were invited to be part of national teams traveling to Iowa in April and Disney Duals in Orlando at the end of June.
This is a great opportunity and honor for these girls. It also is a lot financially. We have a lot of ground to make up in a short amount of time. We don't like asking but do need help in raising money for their travels. If you would like to make a donation that would be wonderful, but we want to earn the money soooooo.......
We are going to do a battery drive to help with costs. If you have any car, truck, tractor, lawnmower, motorcycle batteries that are lying around and you need to get rid of them please let me know. We will find a date to make trips to surrounding towns to collect them. All you have to do is set them by the curb or by the garage on the dates we will collect and we will pick them up.

I took 9 JH girls and 5 HS girls out to Kearney yesterday to wrestle in AAU State. It was a very long day to say the least.there were 600 6-8th grade girls and boys entered and 600 HS gi4ls and boys entered. Our girls wrestled hard and it was some very tough competition. Much harder than what the JH girls were used to. Still all girls had some great matches both o. The winning and losing side. I am very proud of them. We had 3 placers, Avril Duran 4th JH. Lauren Wemhoff 5th and Maribel Gonzalez 3rd.

The Girls did a great job this weekend and wrestled tough. Miriam.and Jessica didn't pick up a win but wrestled well. Gina went 2-2 and fell one match short of a medal. Carly went 3-3 and came home with a 6th place medal.

These four girls will be traveling to Omaha next week to represent Schuyler at the State Tournament. 100 Jessica Ortega 4th place, 130 Miriam Deanda 2nd place, 145 Carly Wemhoff 3rd place, 190 Gina Alba Disteict champ.
We had 3 others that lost in the heartbreak round and had close matches. They will be back next year to give it another shot.
I am extremely proud of our team this year. Even though some of you fell a little short of your goals you still represented your school well.
The team never finished lower than 3rd at any tournament. 3rd Fremont, 1st Crete, 3rd Pierce, 2nd Cryin Creek Duals, 2nd Norm Manstedt, 1st Logan Magnolia, 1st Conference, 1st Boone Central, 3rd Districts. We also went 8-2 in duals this year.

These are the girls that finished our 23-24 season. Couldn't be more proud to be their coach. The young ones and new ones learned a lot this year and I am looking forward to having them back next year.
We had 9 Seniors finish the season. (Shortest to tallest. 100 Yessica Garcia, 100 Jessica Ortega, 115 Jacquie Perez, 125 Emily Garcia, 105 Maribel Gonzalez, 115 Maddy Pineda, 145 Carly Wemhoff, 190 Carolina Carvajal, 190 Gina Alba) It was a blessing having them on our team and in the wrestling room everyday. Good luck Seniors in your future endeavors.

A little flashback to when this year's seniors were in 8th grade. 6 of these girls made it all the way through their senior year. Had a few bumps in the road. I was excited to see how this class would turn out by their senior year. This class helped start and shape girls wrestling.

The girls traveled to Crete today for sub districts. 4 won their semifinals match. We had 7 more that made it to the heartbreak round. 3 of the 7 made it through. We lost a couple really close ones.
We will be at Aurora next Friday. The 7 girls that made to to next week (100 Jessica Ortega, 110 Sinai Sanchez, 115 Courtney Briones, 130 Miriam Deanda, 135 Lauren Wemhoff, 145 Carly Wemhoff, 190 Gina Alba) need to place in the top 4 of their bracket to qualify for state.

The 3 girls in the last picture are seniors that fell one match short. They did a fantastic job all season long. They helped push their teammates in practice. They battled tough in every match they wrestled. Maribel Gonzalez, Maddy Pineda, and Emily Garcia, you girls were awesome this year. I am proud to have been your coach.

For the second time in three years, Schuyler girls wrestling won the Central Conference title as senior Maribel Gonzalez and sophomore Lauren Wemhoff took home gold.

Schuyler Girls traveled to Albion today and came away champions again. It's tough to wrestle a late night and then get up early and do it again the next day. The girls did an excellent job handling the adversity and really put it together as a team. It makes me feel good to watch our girls on the sidelines cheering on their teammates no matter the outcome.
They didn't do an awards ceremony so I wasn't able to get pictures but here are our medalists.

Schuyler Girls became our 2024 Conference Champs today. We.have been shooting to try to score 200 points but always fell a little short. The girls made.it happen today. Of the 99 girls that wrestled in our conference 72 of them had winning records. That is pretty. Impressive and made.for a lot of great matches. We had 12 girls wrestle today 10 became medalists and the 2 (Emily Garcia and Elvia Morales) that did not get a medal still had a chance.to wrestle for 5th and they both finished the day with a win and earning 5th place.
Medalists today 4th place Nadia Pond and Carolina Carvajal. 3rd place Maddy Pineda. 2nd place Jessica Ortega, Sinai Sanchez, Miriam Deanda, Carly Wemhoff, and Gina Alba.
1st place Maribel Gonzalez and Lauren Wemhoff.
Great job girls. Keep working hard. Next weekend is sub-districts.

Well we must have made a good impression. We made the top 8 in Nebraska Girls dual teams, unfortunately we were not selected to wrestle in the NSWCA State Dual Tournament because we have our conference Tournament the same day.
We have been off the mats for 2 weeks now because of weather. We are hoping to get back on track this next week. It will be busy. West Point Beemer dual Tuesday, Logan View Dual Thursday, Conference Tournament in York Friday, Boone Central Tournament in Albion on Saturday. Gearing up for sub-districts on Saturday Feb 3rd in Crete.
Keep us in your prayers that we wrestle tough and stay healthy. And no more bad weather.

Our JVs wrestled at the Winside invite today and represented well. With only sending up 8 girls they finished 9th out of 18 teams. Four of them coming home with medals. Medalists were 100lb Yuritza Mejia 2nd. 100lb Yessica Garcia 4th (1st ever medal 🏅. 105lb Yaritza Mejia 2nd. 115lb Ester Miranda 3rd.
Good job girls. Keep working hard. It will pay off.

The varsity girls traveled to Logan Iowa to wrestle today. The were crowned champions out of 23 teams. We only wrestled 10 girls today and had 6 medalists. We feel we could have had a couple more but they ran a wrestle back to 5th place and not 3rd place. 110lb Sinai Sanchez and 115lb Nadia Pond both went 4-1 on the day but ended up 5th because of this type of bracket. These 2 also finished 1st and 3rd respectively for the pin in shortest time stats for the tournament.
Our medalists for the day 100lb Jessica Ortega 1st. 105lb Maribel Gonzalez 4th. 120lb Maddy Pineda 1st. 130lb Miriam Deanda 1st. 135lb Lauren Wemhoff 2nd. 145lb Carly Wemhoff 2nd.
The team won 71% of their matches and all by pins. On to the next chapter next week with a dual vs Logan View Thursday and Friday for our home meet.

The Schuyler Girls Wrestling team competed at the Norm Manstedt invitational today. The team tied for 2nd place out of 44 teams. The team did not have a single finalists but in order to have this kind of achievement the girls had to fight their way back through the consolation bracket knocking out girls that were in position to move their team ahead. Every girl that competed on our team today won at least one match and contributed to the teams success.
We had a surprise at the end, Jessica Ortega was awarded the most pins in the shortest time award. She had 5 pins in 5 minutes.
Medalists today were 100lb Jessica Ortega 3rd. 105lb Maribel Gonzalez 4th. 120lb Maddy Pineda 5th. 135lb Lauren Wemhoff 3rd. 145lb Carly Wemhoff 5th. 190lb Gina Alba 5th.
This closes put another chapter in our book this year. We will see what the next chapter brings on Saturday. Good Luck girls.

The girls traveled to weeping water for the Cryin' Creek Dual Tournament. The Warriors went 4-1 on the day and fell 6 points short of going 5-0. We had a fantastic day and once we got our bearings we wrestled really tough in our wins and losses.

We dualed South Sioux City tonight. We tied 42-42, but lost on the 8th tiebreaker. It was still fun and as always a great dual. The 1st picture is of both teams together. Kind of hard to see. These girls are great and so are their coaches. It was also good to see our girls help them out in rolling up mats and putting away chairs. Good deeds will be rewarded in time.
