The girls thought they needed to take me down and dogpile me after winning our last dual. Now I know what it feels like to have nearly 2000 lbs on top of you. It definitely does NOT feel good.
But it was worth the excitement I saw in them. Winning that dual ensured we would end with an above 500 record for the season finishing 6-4.
I felt these girls had an excellent day of wrestling. We may not have been state champions but these girls make me feel like one when they surprise me like that.

The girls took on West Point Beemer tonight in a dual. There were some great match ups and some matches that could have gone either way. Luck was on our side tonight. We had 3 girls (Elizabeth Nunez, Herlinda Mateo, and Audrie Alonzo) that were behind in their matches, battled back and ended up getting pins for their team. We also looked pretty dominant at 135 (Lauren Wemhoff),100 (Yuritza Mejia), and 105 (Sherlyn Vicente). It was a good night. The Warriors won the dual 53-21.
Next up are the State Duals at the Nielsen Center in West Point. Warriors will open vs Norfolk at 9am. We will have 3 duals that day.
Then travel to Crete on Saturday for the Central Conference tournament. That tournament will be extremely tough, I hope our girls are up for a challenge.

Schuyler Girls wrestled in Plattsmouth today. We battled tough today. We had 7 in the semi's and got 3 through to the finals. All 3 were crowned tournament champions, Sinai Sanchez 110lb, Lauren Wemhoff 135lb, Miriam Deanda 140lb. We had 5 girls wrestling for 3rd, two of them won their matches Sherlyn Vicente 105lb and Ester Miranda 115lb. 4th place were Yuritza Mejia 100lb, Courtney Briones 120lb, and Elizabeth Nunez 130lb. 5th place was Linda Sebastian 145lb.
We also were crowned 2025 tournament champions out of 19 teams. That is our first for this season.
We have a very busy week next week. Tuesday home dual vs West Point Beemer. Thursday duals @ West Point. And conference in Crete on Saturday.

Tonight we dualed Seward. It was a fantastic match up. The girls battled and it came down to the last match. Score 36-36 going into the 140lb match . Miriam Deanda 19-11 vs Ava Redinger 26-9. Going into 3rd period Miriam was down 3-1. She took Redinger down with 45 sec in the match and then ended the match with a pin to give the Lady Warriors a 42-36 victory.
We head to Plattsmouth Friday. Start time will be 4:30pm.
Make the trip down to watch the Varsity girls perform, then hit the casino on the way back 🤑🤑💸🤑💸

Its been a busy couple of days this week. The girls dualed Logan View Thursday. Won 65-12. We had to give up 2 forfeits but won every wrestling match that night.
Friday we hosted our invite and it was extremely tough. All 16 man brackets were full or nearly full and all brackets had 8-12 girls with winning records. Some people were complaining about how long the tournament was running, but when everyone is good and match ups are tough the matches go the distance. The Schuyler Girls wrestled well and held their own. The Varsity girls had 5 Medalists Yuritza Mejia 100lb 3rd, Sherlyn Vicente 105lb 5th, Sinai Sanchez 110lb 5th, Lauren Wemhoff 135 3rd, and Miriam Deanda 140lb 4th. On the JV side we had 6 medalists. We only place the top 3 in these brackets most were 4, 5, or 6 man round robins. Gabby Romero 115 3rd, Luz Gazpar 125 3rd, Evelyn Becerra 130lb 2nd, Elizabeth Nunez 135lb 2nd, Linda Sebastian 145lb 2nd, Herlinda Mateo 170lb 2nd.

Next week we.travel to Seward Thursday for a dual and Plattsmouth invite on Friday.
Middle School Girls host their tournament next Saturday at the High School.

Varsity girls traveled to Logan IA today for their girls tournament. This event has really grown. 5 years ago there were a hand full of teams an most weights were 3 or 4 man round-robins. Today there were 24 teams and most weights were full or near full 16 man brackets. The Schuyler girls faired well placing 3rd as a team. We had one Champion, Sinai Sanchez 110lb. 2 runner-up Courtney Briones 120lb and Lauren Wemhoff 135lb. 2 4th place Sherlyn Vicente 105lb and Miriam Deanda 140lb. 5th Elvia Morales 145lb, and 2 6th place Yuritza Mejia 100lb and Audrie Alonzo 155lb 7th Bryanna Ixcot 125lb and 8th Ester Miranda 115lb.
It was a good day. The girls looked good and wrestle tough.
Next events Thursday night 6:30 home dual vs Logan View. FRIDAY starting at 9am Schuyler Girls Home Invite.

The Varsity girls wrestled in Pierce today. The team finished runner-up out of 22 teams. And only 2.5 points from 1st.
We had 6 medalists in the Varsity and one JV medalist.

Our younger JV girls traveled to Elgin on Friday tow wrestle. They put up a great fight all afternoon. They finished 5th out of 20 teams and we had 4 medalists. Laura Ar**no at 155 4th, Elizabeth Nunez 135 3rd, Yuritza Mejia 100 3rd, Nadia Pond 125 4th.

Yesterday after wrestling we stopped in GI to eat at Wave Pizza. There was another large group of people having a birthday party for a girl. When the party started singing Happy Birthday to the girl our entire team joined in.
When I went to pay the bill the waitress told me the Grandpa of the girl picked up our tab. I never did catch his name. I was floored because it was several 100 dollars.
I know our team thanked him as we walked out. But I just want to express our gratitude again. It doesn't happen very often, the random acts of kindness.

Schuyler Girls Wrestling team travels to Wood River today and showed well despite being short handed in some weights. The team placed 5th overall. Medalists were 100lb Yuritza Mejia 4th, 100lb Arantza Catalan 3rd, 105lb Sherlyn Vicente 2nd, 110lb Sinai Sanchez 2nd, 135lb Lauren Wemhoff 2nd, Miriam Deanda 4th.
We still have room for improvement. Next event is home next Thursday vs South Sioux City, Friday JV go to Elgin, Saturday Varsity travel to Pierce.

Schuyler girls wrestled in Crete Thursday night losing the opening dual 30-47 and then battled back against Lincoln East to tie the dual at 36-36. We won by criteria. We had 2 forfeits and they had 3 so we win.
Traveled to Fremont today to wrestle their invite. There were twice as many girls wrestling compared to the same number of boys teams. This sport is just exploding. We finished 6th out of 14 as a team. We were short handed because of eligibility issues, but the girls wrestled tough. We improved from last night. We had 5 medalist. 110 Sinai Sanchez 2nd, 115 Gabby Romero 4th, 125 Bryanna Ixcot 4th, 135 Lauren Wemhoff 1st, 140 Miriam Deanda 4th. We had 3 others that were one win away from medaling.
We have a home dual next Thursday at 6:30 vs Elkhorn and then travel to Wood River on Saturday.
