The Varsity girls wrestled in Pierce today. The team finished runner-up out of 22 teams. And only 2.5 points from 1st.
We had 6 medalists in the Varsity and one JV medalist.
Sherlyn Vicente 105 5th, Courtney Briones 120 4th, Herlinda Mateo 155JV 2nd, Miriam Deanda 140 3rd, Lauren Wemhoff 135 3rd, Ester Miranda 115 2nd, Audrie Alonzo 170 4th.

Our younger JV girls traveled to Elgin on Friday tow wrestle. They put up a great fight all afternoon. They finished 5th out of 20 teams and we had 4 medalists. Laura Ar**no at 155 4th, Elizabeth Nunez 135 3rd, Yuritza Mejia 100 3rd, Nadia Pond 125 4th.

Yesterday after wrestling we stopped in GI to eat at Wave Pizza. There was another large group of people having a birthday party for a girl. When the party started singing Happy Birthday to the girl our entire team joined in.
When I went to pay the bill the waitress told me the Grandpa of the girl picked up our tab. I never did catch his name. I was floored because it was several 100 dollars.
I know our team thanked him as we walked out. But I just want to express our gratitude again. It doesn't happen very often, the random acts of kindness.

Schuyler Girls Wrestling team travels to Wood River today and showed well despite being short handed in some weights. The team placed 5th overall. Medalists were 100lb Yuritza Mejia 4th, 100lb Arantza Catalan 3rd, 105lb Sherlyn Vicente 2nd, 110lb Sinai Sanchez 2nd, 135lb Lauren Wemhoff 2nd, Miriam Deanda 4th.
We still have room for improvement. Next event is home next Thursday vs South Sioux City, Friday JV go to Elgin, Saturday Varsity travel to Pierce.

Schuyler girls wrestled in Crete Thursday night losing the opening dual 30-47 and then battled back against Lincoln East to tie the dual at 36-36. We won by criteria. We had 2 forfeits and they had 3 so we win.
Traveled to Fremont today to wrestle their invite. There were twice as many girls wrestling compared to the same number of boys teams. This sport is just exploding. We finished 6th out of 14 as a team. We were short handed because of eligibility issues, but the girls wrestled tough. We improved from last night. We had 5 medalist. 110 Sinai Sanchez 2nd, 115 Gabby Romero 4th, 125 Bryanna Ixcot 4th, 135 Lauren Wemhoff 1st, 140 Miriam Deanda 4th. We had 3 others that were one win away from medaling.
We have a home dual next Thursday at 6:30 vs Elkhorn and then travel to Wood River on Saturday.

Parents of girl wrestlers. Please watch this video. I express every year about wearing the correct competition sports bra. I don't think the message ever reaches home. They don't need to wear it for practice but has been stressed about wearing under their singlets.

All these young ladies plus around 15 more have been working the concession stands at the home Husker games this season. It is one of our best ways to earn money for our team so the girls can get gear and equipment for our wrestling team.
It's a lot of work, but the girls do a great job and have fun throughout the day. They are exhausted by the time we get back home.
Looking forward to a great season girls.

I had a chance to go watch these girls at their wrestle-offs today for SCC Bobcat wrestling team. They both made quick work of their opponents both getting takedowns and pins in the first period. I can't wait to see how they do this year. Nice job ladies.
It was good to see and talk with both of you. Thanks for the hugs and laughs.

The Lady Luck Wrestling Dual team finished 6th out of 14 teams. We pushed NWA red team to the wire in pool play. Had a great last match win at 235 to win the first dual of the silver bracket 35-33.
The girls really learned a lot this weekend. They got a little. Beat up too but they all know it will make them better in the long run.
I am so proud of all of them and can't wait to see how they end up by the end of this years Wrestling season.
Thank you girls for a job well done.
I also want to give a big thank you to Chad and Staci Lemburg. They helped out tremendously with running clock and helping coach in the corner. It was nice having the support and a chance to bounce ideas off of you.

This is one of my favorite parts about our trips. The girls make me laugh. The conversations and the little phrases they use.. their laughs and the comradery. They learn new things about the other schools they each go to and similarities and differences. Some things I don't really need to hear too.
I just am fortunate I get the opportunity to be around great people and they make me become a better person too.

It was a great day for wrestling in Coralville, IA. We started on fire with all 11 winning their first match. Then we ran into some pretty stiff competition. They all battled great in every match and we got some bumps and bruises but overall it was a great experience.

Tomorrow we have our duals. It should be interesting. A lot of people will be sore after today.

Girls and Parents,
This is something we should be shooting for every year. We work hard on the mat but should work our brains harder in the classroom. It was disheartening hearing many of the schools we wrestle against getting their names called out and recognized and knowing that Schuyler Girls Wrestling would never be announced.
We can do a better job, as a team, on the academic side. This is going to become one of my top priorities as a coach to help prepare you for your future endeavors. Wrestling will make you tough, fight through the hard times, carry yourself with pride, but your brains will ensure you will live a better life because you will use it to gain respect for yourself and from your peers. Your mind will help you advance farther faster.
This all starts the first day of school. Sharpen your minds Girls, it is what will help us rise to the top.
I love all of you and want nothing but success in your future. 💚

Girls, this is a great opportunity to get your physical done for this coming year. Make sure you get the packet from the school.
I am driving the bus on the 8th. Also remember to bring the $20 to pay for the physical.

Lauren and Maribel represented Schuyler very well. Maribel had a tough weight and was in every match and almost had a couple of more wins but still finished 6-5. Lauren went 10-1 and is a silver all-american. The last match she was able to face off against the one girl that gave her a loss and Lauren pinned her in the 1st period. She was pretty pumped.
It was amazing to watch all the Nebraska girls on all 4 teams compete at a high level and perform very well against girls from across the US.
Maribel and Lauren's team, the Black Widows, really dominated their division out scoring their opponents on average 68-13.
All these girls will never forget this experience.
I am so proud of the Schuyler girls and their national champion teammates.

These girls did well out in Iowa and are still working hard to compete in Florida at Disney Duals.
We have set up an account at CMI in Columbus. If you have any type of scrap metal that you are taking in and would like to make to make a donation to our program to help pay for the girls way. The account is called Lady Luck. It will be open until the end of June.
We are still collecting batteries, but would also pick up copper and brass. Just send a message through Facebook or text me at 308-379-9610 and we will ty to find a ti.e to come collect them.
We have had some generous people make some donations and have collected $595 of the $4100 that is needed for the trip. Thank you to all that have donated.
