I want to tell you about my friend, Nathan Silpath, who would have turned 20 in the last few weeks. He was just 9 or 10 years old when we met through a radiothon, and he had cancer.

You wouldn't know it though.

Here’s the short story of our friendship and my one little regret: https://www.paulasangeleer.com/post/honoring-my-buddy-nathan-silpath

Alright, people like me love to say, "no regrets." Lessons learned, all part of the story, had some fun. Well, I do have a regret.

Advice for the day: If there's anything amiss in your life, anything wrong, if you feel off, something's not right: get that favorite album out. You have one, don't you?

Get that favorite album out and see if it doesn't change your state of mind, take you back to a place where you can feel that good feeling again. Music is magic in that way and it will save your soul.

Please tell me: what is your album? I'm very curious to know!

🎸 I could talk about albums for days, but these are my 3 essentials. Copy and paste to the comments and let me know your 3 essential albums. For me:

☝️ First album: Led Zeppelin IV
🏆 Best album: Passion and Warfare (Steve Vai)
🔥 New favorite: The Rock Album (Whitesnake/David Coverdale)

Let's talk about the rock albums with the power to give you instant boost of courage, or teleport you to a different time and place.

Following up on my last story, here’s a look at my wild years with alcohol, before I finally got help:

When I turned 21, I went to New York City with my friend Kym, and we went all over New York City. In particular, in the village, there was this one bar called the Scrap Bar, a crazy little place. Had my life not revolved around drinking, then maybe I wouldn't have met Dee Dee Ramone (!) that night and made him two very important promises. But I'll tell you more about it another time.

There were so many blackouts, a lot of fun, but a lot of misery too. It was very painful. 💔 If you drink, and it's not for you, you know how uncomfortable it is to be alcoholic.

Thanks to everyone who has reached out to share their own stories of recovery and encouragement. Read the full story here:

Many people have a recollection of the first time they got drunk, but I really don't. As the legend goes, my mother was a heavy scotch drinker even while pregnant. So I consider myself drunk from even before I got here.

Part of my “origin story” is a decades-long struggle with addiction. You become fearless when you’re drunk, and I likely had alcohol in my system at birth 🥃 Over the next 27 years, I had so many blackouts—a lot of fun—but a lot of misery too.

If you want to find out how I finally sobered up, please listen to my full short story on PaulaSangeleer.com!

🧬 I am 3-foot-8. I have dwarfism, which is a genetic mutation. I like to say that I’m a mutant, and people will tell me, “Oh, no, you're not!” Thanks, but I actually am. Pseudoachondroplasia is a genetic mutation affecting 1-in-every 50K-100K people.

👩‍🦰 I don't think of myself as teeny tiny person, but I guess I am kind of teeny tiny, compared to most people. But I think that’s because I grew up in a dwarf family.

This “short story” is (ironically) a little bit longer than most 😁 Please enjoy, let me know what you think, and read more on PaulaSangeleer.com!

Who else is ready for a new year?? 🥳🎆 As I've been thinking ahead to 2021, it reminded me how excited I was for 1998, when I committed to a year of saying "yes" to everything.

Check out my short story and tell me about YOUR favorite New Year's resolution:

I was a music director right at the tail-end of that really fat, criminal part of how music record companies would entertain.

🎙 My name is Paula Sangeleer and after nearly 30 years of rocking the radio airwaves, I’ve figured out my story. I'm a middle-aged rock-n-roller who is striving to be the kindest person on the planet. In short, this is the story of my life, from a perspective that you've probably never considered.

🧬 In case we’ve never had the pleasure of meeting, my voice is larger than life while my stature is well...not. Dwarfism is a genetic mutation that runs in my family, including for me, my sisters, my mother and her mother as well. I like to say sometimes that I'm a mutant. People go "Oh, no, you're not," but I actually am. It's a genetic mutation called Pseudoachondroplasia, which affects about 1 in 50,000-100,000 people.

🤷‍♀️ It's one of the first things that strangers notice, but it's just not a big deal to me. It's just something that makes me uniquely me, and a lot different from your average person. I guess I'm not average, which I'm glad for because I like to be different. Or I like that I'm different.

🤟 I have lots of stories to share, but the common message is just to be nice. Whatever that means to you, knock yourself out, but my goal is to help people, feed people and don't be an as***le. I mean, could it be that simple? I think so. Check out PaulaSangeleer.com for more stories over the coming weeks!
