Dj Equis
Juan Hernandez, known professionally as Dj Equis, is an American DJ, songwriter, record producer and media personality. Born and raised in Seattle, Equis grew up listening to Kube93 as well as being around various family members who were DJ’s and musicians themselves. He ultimately fell in love with hip hop’s ability to transport him into the stories being told through rhyme. At a young age, he moved to Mexico for a few years where he was taught how to DJ by his cousins. Although he has professionally been making music since 2005, he initially began Djing when he was 12 years old and has since developed and perfected his skills, building his brand as a respected DJ.
Dj Equis shows love to his Latin roots in regards to his music, as he incorporates latin sounds in his mixes. “I have always had my style of sprinkling latin music in my Hiphop sets and now it’s a thing I guess. When I started doing it, not a lot of DJ’s did it.” He has shared the stage with various artists such as, DMX, Mos Def, Lil B, NoClue, Jeremih, Th3 R3jects, YG, DLo, LeToya Lucette, Kstylis, Hurricane Chris, Chingo Bling, Clinton Sparks, Kap G, and many more!
Dj Equis is always working on something, his most current project being a radio show called “Rush Hour Vibras” which airs Monday through Friday 3pm-6pm on Latino Hits FM His ultimate goal is to spread good vibes with the music he creates. “I wanna change bad moods to good with music. Take you somewhere else. Close your eyes and listen to my music. Dance, bop your head, feel good.” Dj Equis’ music definitely has a “feel good” vibe to it and he will no doubt continue to make people feel good with his music as he creates and accomplishments more projects in the future.
