When I opened my storefront on Main Street in 2022, one of my first customers was Darlene Reck. She came in to welcome me to the neighborhood and she was thrilled there was a flower shop in town.

Darlene was a wonderful lady. She loved my work and loved to tell everyone about Pennsburg Petals.

She really liked our flower cakes and she wanted to send one to a friend in Pen Argyl. I could not find a shop out there that made them so I made a flower cake and my husband drove it out to Pen Argyl and delivered it. Darlene was thrilled and gave me the attached card and bracelet.

You may know Darlene through her husband Mike Reck the barber on Main Street in East Greenville.

Darlene had cancer and when I met her I noticed she wore a scarf on her head because her treatments made her lose her hair. Sadly Darlene lost her battle with cancer on June 2nd.

Darlene loved sunflowers and her daughter made her the below sunflower plate. Darlene wanted me to have her sunflower plate for my store. I will be hanging it on my wall with a memorial for Darlene.

She was a great woman who stood up for what she believed in and didn't take crap from anyone. Such a strong beautiful woman. We are sure going to miss Darlene but she will live on in our memory. We are blessed to have met her.

New this year for prom, pocket square boutonnières.

If you are unfamiliar with pocket square boutonnières, they are a petite arrangement of flowers that pokes out from the external breast pocket of a suit or tuxedo jacket. Unlike a traditional boutonnière, no pinning is required to the lapel, these arrangements are made on a piece of heavy cardstock wrapped with black ribbon and placed directly into the jacket's outer pocket.

Our pocket square boutonnières are $29.99.

Here are some examples of pocket square boutonnières. We can make them to match your corsage or handheld bouquets or they can be ordered alone.

Prom is almost here. This year we are doing prom a little different.

We are no longer offering prom ordering online. You can still go online and view products but you will need to stop in or call 267-450-9545 to place your order.

We found it was better to speak directly to our customers to manage expectations and to make prom go as smoothly as possible for everyone. We would like to customize your order to your needs and coordinate the flowers with your dress and/or tuxedo. We found there were some miscommunications when ordering online.

For example, if you are wearing hot pink, we suggest ordering offsetting colors that will make that dress pop. Hot pink flowers and/or hot pink ribbon will blend in for pictures. You paid a lot of money for that dress, you want to make that dress stand out.

Keep in mind flowers will never be an exact replica of the picture since we hand make all orders custom for you. We make all of our orders as close to the pictures as possible. All orders have the same look and feel as the picture but shades can not be duplicated exactly and some items are not in stock 100% of the time.

We are offering handheld bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, pocket square boutonnieres, as well as keepsake artificial corsages and boutonnieres.

Since spring is right around the corner, let’s talk about tulips.

Ever wonder why tulips droop in the vase after a few days?

It’s because cut tulips continue to grow. This is because tulips are very receptive to sunlight, so they'll keep growing towards it. Their blooms also close at night when the sun goes down!

Tulips are edible. When food supplies to the Netherlands were blocked during the Second World War, tulip bulbs helped to stave off widespread hunger and famine. The government published guidance on how to prepare the bulbs, with people using them as substitutes for vegetables, and even grinding them down to use as flour or coffee.

In fact, actress Audrey Hepburn whose family had moved to the Netherlands during WWII, recounted eating tulips to survive. She said they tasted terrible.

Starting in the 1600’s the Netherlands were the largest producer of tulips, and still are today, although they originated in Turkey.

The word tulip is derived from a Persian word called delband, which means turban. It is generally believed that it was called this due to the turban-shaped nature of the flower. However, this might have been a translation error as it was fashionable to wear tulips on turbans at the time.

For those of you that think ordering from order gathers doesn’t matter. Let me put this in prospective.

When you order from tribute store on funeral homes websites, FTD, 1800flowers, Ava’s flowers,Teleflora or any other online order gather this is what you get.

This is the exact same order pictured below. Both ordered a 6 inch Spathiphyllum plant. The one on the left was from an order gather. The one on the right was a direct customer.

The one on the left paid $68.88. The one on the right paid $63.58.

When you pay an order gatherer $49.99 for the plant. $0 delivery. $14.99 service charge. $3.90 tax the total: $68.88. The order gatherer gives the delivering florist a total of $27.00 to order your plant, make it and deliver it. So that means you get a $17.00 plant and $10 to deliver that plant.

When you buy direct you pay $49.99 for the plant $10 for delivery and $3.59 tax. Total: $63.58.

When you buy directly from the florist you get the full value of your purchase.
