.to Guest Spotlight:

Gremlinz

Upon discovering the sounds of Jungle in the mid 90's, Toronto native Gremlinz became
obsessed with Drum & Bass and the culture behind it, fully immersing himself into
collecting, DJing and learning to produce the music that had taken over his life.
A few years of honing his craft later and Gremlinz secured his debut release in 2004 as
part of the MDZ04 LP on Metalheadz. A formidable introduction and a statement of
intent for this uncompromising maverick artist, made all the more surreal by the fact that
Headz was his favorite label and the most influential to the development of his taste and
sounds from day one.

Following his first outing, Gremlinz has gone on to drop a constant stream of tracks on a
who's who of top labels, and with each release, the accolades have poured in. Tracks
on Renegade Hardware, 31 Records, Cylon, Architecture, Rupture, AMAR and Paradox
Music highlight his multi-faceted style, allowing him to drop both break beat-heavy B-
Boy affairs and more nuanced dubby half step tunes seemingly at will.

His singular approach has been well-received on both sides of the pond, resulting in a
global demand for his upfront DJ sets as well as landing him a spot on Loxy & Ink's
HORSEMEN collective, aligning him with a superb stable of producers and a never
ending supply of fresh music.

2015 saw Gremlinz set up the much heralded UVB-76 imprint with fellow
contemporaries Ruffhouse, which has since grown to include 3 equally well received
offshoot labels, Droogs (also co-run by Overlook), 4 6 2 5, and The Stone Tapes
(Curated by Overlook & Vega Ruffhouse). Each having a devoted, worldwide fan base
eager for the next slice of genre pushing innovation.

In 2018 Gremlinz career came full circle with a renewed focus in the studio alongside
longtime friend and now close collaborator Jesta resulting in a return to Metalheadz in
the form of a Gremlinz & Jesta EP on METHXX, a 12” on Metalheadz Platinum, and of
course their recently released debut album ‘The Lee Garden Historical Preservation
Society’.

Now fully reintegrated into the Headz stable, and with the full support and nurturing of
Goldie himself, Gremlinz & Jesta are locked in the studio meticulously crafting follow
ups to their debut long player.

Remedyremedy

If you mix high energy and a whole lot of soul, what do you get? Remedy. She is one of Toronto's most requested and loved djs, and an official member of the DNB Girls collective.

Growing up in Toronto, Remedy quickly fell in love with the underground rave scene. After attending her first jungle party, she knew she was here to stay. In 2009, outfitted with a set of Tech 12’s and a modest vinyl collection, Remedy was determined to teach herself how to mix. She relied on her classical music training and her eclectic range of musical influences to guide and inspire her as she learned to command the decks.

Recently, Remedy has been snatched up by heavyweight promoters Destiny, as their new official resident. She is playing alongside the biggest Drum and Bass acts coming to Canada. Pendulum, Ulterior Motive, Netsky, DJ Hype, Phibes, Koven, Shabba D, Harry Shotta, Critical Impact, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Muzz, Ray Keith, Kenny Ken, Mampi Swift and MC Funsta to name a few. In the last several years she has made appearances at festivals such as Toronto Pride Festival, Harvest Festival and Future Forest.

She’s got a rep for her deep crate, coining the title “Queen of the B Sides” by her peers. With an ear for melodic mixes and complicated break beats, Remedy is intentional and weaves a narrative through every set.

Mark Baker

A lifelong musician and performer, Mark learned classical piano at the early age of 6, trumpet as a teen, and by university, this music ju**ie was playing bass guitar in live bands. Setting the stage for the mixed genres he spins and diverse crowds he attracts today, young Mark was a rare combination of devoted B-boy, obsessed with rock.

This all shifted, however, one late and fateful night in 1999. Mark’s music journey hit a high note (and dark, dirty bass notes) when he was introduced to Toronto’s thumping subterranean club, System Sound Bar. Mark’s eyes, ears, and mind were instantly opened.

Captivated by house and techno from that point forward, Mark became a fixture in the Toronto underground music scene. Closely watching many of the DJ greats, it wasn’t long before Mark was fuelled by that familiar burning desire to master yet another musical craft. He hones his slick selector capabilities and gives his all to every show.

Bringing unrivalled passion and dedicated skill to his creative mixes of jaw-dropping, body-moving tracks, this Baker serves the dancefloor by mixing tasty tracks and dropping relentless beats that make every crowd hunger for more.

Lana Violette

From DJing out of her car to being booked behind the decks across the GTHA Lana Violette joins this week's KINETIC.

Originally born and raised in St Catharines, Lana currently resides in Hamilton where she is known to many as the Q***r Techno Vampire Princess. While her focus is primarily on techno she mixes a variety of complimentary, infectious electronic sounds; from dark acid, tech house, to industrial bass and the classics. She launched her career early 2022 where she dedicated herself to getting her sounds heard on her own terms - presenting from her car's trunk at various pop up locations in Ontario. This attracted new listeners as it devolved as a passion within Miss Violette. It didn't take long for this motivated up-and-comer to become a resident of Hamilton's Studio L14 where she quickly earned her place and gained respect from her peers.

After a hair raising set spinning in the village for Pride week last summer Lana caught The Future Underground's attention. With a thirst for tech she is constantly evolving so expect the unexpected with a whole new approach to her craft debuting at KINETIC this week and let the pulse take you away.
