Masters of illusion (2009)
For your viewing pleasure, enjoy Lance Burton's first television special "The Legend Begins"
This next piece of music from Lance Burton's show has an interesting history behind it.
The track is called "All Cut Up". The song was first used during the masked ball segment as Lance cut up Michael Goudeau's jester character piece by piece until he was just a talking head.
As the show evolved, the song was still used during the masked ball segment but now it would be used in the Excalibur illusion, which itself replaced the De Kolta chair illusion that was performed in this part. where Lance exchanges places with his lovely ballerina that was trapped in a glass box with swords only for Lance to reappear on the grand staircase as another of his assistants appeared in the box
Lance has been known to change the show, sometimes even during the show itself, but it is good to see the tracks still were used.
More music from Lance Burton's show album.
Staying at the Masked Ball, while Lance is well known for his dove act, Lance works with another feathered friend, the duck. This segment has Lance making ducks appear before the audience in all sorts of ways.
I was able to find audio used in Lance Burton's show at the Monte Carlo. I am working on adding images to the audio that best represent where in the show this takes place.
For now, enjoy the introduction to the Masked Ball set piece seen at the end of Lance's show (one of my favorite set pieces in magic)
Siegfried and Roy: Fuji TV Japan special
At the WHAS Crusade for Children event in Lance's home state of Kentucky, master magician Lance Burton performs the Excalibur metamorphosis illusion that he used quite often in his Las Vegas show at the Monte Carlo (now Park MGM) during his Masked Ball finale section. This has been one trick that I have been looking for ever since starting this project as little to no footage of Lance doing the whole routine exists. And what is funny is that the setup, pacing and I even want to say music of the trick is done in the same way as it was done in his Vegas show just now without the "glitz and glamour" of the vegas stage. The trick is now used as a finale piece and now longer leads into the swordfight illusion that Lance usually ended the show with, that is now performed by Criss Angel at his show at the Planet Hollywood hotel in Las vegas.
Enjoy seeing Lance do what he does best.
I think you guys are going to love this because I love this. A promo for magician's Allen Valentine's grand illusions show, from the Trump Plaza hotel in Atlantic City. These shows were huge in the 90's until the mid 2000's and these shows are why I started this project. The costumes, the sets and the illusions perfectly encapsulate what a large part of the magic scene was during this period. For me, this is my classic magic and I hope that magic makes a return to the grandeur it had so long ago.
And for those wondering, Allen is still in Atlantic City, although he is in a producer role for some of the top shows in the area and has produced the Great American Variety show that has featured current top magic acts like Rob Lake and Mark Bennick.
