Kampung Tringgus, B**g is a picturesque village nestled in the heart of Bau district, Kuching Division, making it an ideal destination for agrotourism. Situated approximately 57.5 kilometers from Kuching City and only 22.7 kilometers from Bau town, the village offers a serene escape for tourists seeking an authentic rural experience.

The primary livelihood of the villagers revolves around agriculture, presenting a unique opportunity for agrotourism to thrive. Traditional farming practices and sustainable agricultural methods can be showcased to tourists, providing an educational and immersive experience into the lives of local farmers.

An agricultural park is a tourist attraction provided as a place to showcase the role of the Department of Agriculture in the agricultural sector in Malaysia. In the development of an agricultural park, planning and product development components are important to make the park more conducive and attractive to visit. The goal of the interpretive trail in the agricultural park is to make the subject of agriculture more accessible and appealing to the public. In the context of tourism experience, an interpretation trail.

As a concept, interpretation involves the translation of ideas and concepts into forms that are more interesting and can encourage visitors to think while in the agriculture park.

Prof Dr Azlizam Aziz from University Putra Malaysia will share some of the processes involved in the establishment of interpretive trails, the techniques used and some case studies that give practical examples at SAtCE conference.

Apart from ensuring that Sarawak attains a satisfactory level of food security, the Sarawak Government aspires to transform the agriculture sector towards making Sarawak becoming the nett food exporter by 2030 and offers a highly competitive advantages as the most attractive destination in the region for agriculture investment.

The bold vision is set to industrialize the agrifood sector including selected food crops, deep-sea fisheries and aquaculture as well as the swine industry. The development of the commodity sector including oil palm, sago and nipah, pepper and rubber are also being given equal emphasis particularly in the downstream activities.

Listen to Dr Gluma Saban, Head – Policy & Development Division of M-FICORD, on how the Sarawak Government is actively seeking continuous flow of foreign and domestic private investments to participate in large-scale agrifood and commodity crops production and to unlock the potential of vast native land.

From the Post Covid 19 Development Strategies 2030 (PCDS 2030), Sarawak is envisioned to be a thriving society driven by data and innovation where everyone enjoys economic prosperity, social inclusivity and sustainable environment by 2030 through six economic sectors. Two of the sectors are the agriculture and tourism sectors.

Dr Victor Luna Amin, Assistant Principal Secretary of MTCP Sarawak, will share with us the integration of the concept of community-based ecotourism that conserve the environment, sustaining the well-being of local people and involving environmental interpretation and education with the concept of a community-based agritourism or agroforestry tourism which have huge potential of mutually supportive linkages in helping to promote higher visitor arrivals which could lead to a high-income agro-based community and contribute to the sustainable development of rural areas.
