On Saturday (July 27th, 2024), we attended first pop up shop outside Massy Mega Store 🔥

It was a pleasure to be surrounded by so many small businesses and to most importantly celebrate latest business move in launching her mascot, Bao Bao 🐼

“Our display was based on two elements that make any pirate story memorable; a Sea Monster and Haunted Pirate Ship.

We chose this concept based on a few things; availability of space, originality and creativity.

Our design showed a destroyed pirate ship with the “bow” of the boat smashed against a rock and then being pulled into the debts of ocean by the kraken.

We then used this design to showcase our merch; hanging chains and bracelets on the te****les of the kraken and having trinkets and earrings on the ship as pirate treasures.

Finally, the name of the ship “The Blue” was chosen in memory of my son’s pet fish which he loved and recently lost.”

“When I first heard of the vendor booth competition and that the theme was Pirates, my mind started going into overdrive on what I could do to decorate my space.

The idea of a shipwreck resonated with me, where the Lunar Gift Shop shipwreck would land on the shores of the Fuma Con event and people could come find treasures such as accessories and merch of their desires.

The first idea that came to mind to bring this to life was to do an abstract painting of a shipwreck to place as the background of my booth to bring it to life.

Along with the help of my friends from there, I created more items, such as a shipmast, a treasure chest and an anchor to pull this scene together.”

“Conceptualised and created by Roberto Teekah. This booth was designed to represent the pirate theme of this year’s Fuma Con while also being functional as a display area for original artwork and fashion designs by the artist.

The booth featured white draped fabric reminiscent of the sails of a ship, with ropes and fishing nets strewn about. These sails were used as a display area for 6 original paintings and a fashion installation. 🎨👗

The tabletop displays in the booth were covered in turquoise blue fabric to emulate the waters of the Caribbean Sea. A tattered pirate’s map was loosely draped onto the table along with a prop anchor. 🌊⚓️

A highlight of the booth was the handmade treasure chest that overflowed with gold and jewels.💎💰

Attendees were able to interact with this prop and to grab handfuls of loot (candy🍭) for themselves.

Both table and backdrop displays featured the name of the business, its logo and contact information.

The cherry on top of all of this was the handmade macaw perched high in the booth- on the lookout for treasure and approaching dangers. 🦜🏴‍☠️”

Import It was founded by two local businesses women that wanted to provide affordable access to online shopping without leaving the comfort of your home.

Our booth was inspired by a pirate ship wreck. All elements of our booth were handmade, locally sourced or made from recycled items. We also incorporated real fishing nets and moss to give a more authentic look.

Although people loved our haunted mirror which provided both interest and functionality since customers were able to see how items purchased would look...

The mass of our "Ship" was also made by hand and our logo was transformed into the ships pirate flag which was painted by a local Artist. The fabric and basket were both sourced from local small businesses. We drew inspiration for this from the One Piece anime because just like their team we at Import It are hardwokring and committed to doing our very best.

Our barrels were blue plastic barrels hand painted to look like wooden boards. We also used these barrels as a way to incorporate our logo into the booth design seamlessly.

Our bridge was created using a recycled pallet and wood from the highway. This was also hand painted to mimic a bright rustic ship look.

Mr. Jerry B***r was the star of the show. With his charm and hand made treasure box he quickly became a fan favorite”

“The Local Burrow was started in December 2022 as a passion project - aiming to bring our customers quality and affordable products and merch from their favourite animes, shows, movies & more. Being part of FumaCon 2023 was our first major stepping stone to becoming a more widely known business and we wanted to do it right! We knew right away when we heard the theme “Pirates” that we wanted to create shelves that depicted the masts of ships - this display idea became the heart of our booth so we chose two ships, The Thousand Sunny & Red Force from one of our favourite animes; One Piece.

We carefully sketched our idea & brainstormed - and once details were finalised we got to work. This was a real taste of small business ownership - having to put late nights in after our full-time jobs & improvising on the spot when things didn’t go as planned to bring our idea to life. We carefully constructed two display shelves with durable wood featuring varying heights & lengths to give the full effect of a mast and to support our wide range of products like mugs, figurines, tumblers & so much more. To complete the effect of the masts we added white cloth to the back of the uppermost shelves and for the lowest shelves we added blue cloth to signify the vast sea.

We also painted the shelves to match our ships & designed the banner that featured the bows of the ships & our logo. The final touches were to cut out our banner after it was printed to add some dimension to the completed piece and to add the Classic Straw Hat Pirate Flag as the backdrop of our booth to tie the theme together.

The Local Burrow team had fun putting this display together & knew the vision came through when it caught the attention of all those who passed by our booth. This display was a labour of love & we are certainly looking forward to the next convention!”

“The design idea for our booth was the thousand sunny from One Piece ofc. We wanted to do an exact replica of it however couldn't since we needed to facilitate shelving for the stocks.

Some details had to be left out. The materials used was weighty but not completely heavy, just enough to balance out the shelves and merch so we went with galvanized round/square hollow section and plywood/pvcboard for easy use to shape and use for general cosmetics of the sunny with vinyl and styrofoam for miscellaneous details.

The mast was perfect for the shelves and with some creativity we managed using an old wall mounted sword holder for that portion for the design to the back to accommodate the swords.”

“A Pirate's Treasure

It is rumored that the notorious background pirate brothers, captains of the Mischief Merch, were marooned on an unidentified island within the Caribbean and that their cargo at the time contained treasures sought by many.

Using parts of their ship (painted pvc/fishing net/etc), the brothers built a stronghold around their treasure in which they spent the remaining of their lives protecting.

Many pirates attempted to find the brother's treasure... some even succeeded in locating the stronghold (on the island they now call Fumacon).... but never returned...

To this day,’s treasures remain untouched and that the brother's skeleton hang at the entrance... guarding... waiting...”

“As the Artists behind Earthwax () both Nathan () and myself () designed a booth that would imitate an old pirates ship being attacked by the kraken.

That included making a te****le that would break out the front of the ship which is sinking into the sea, a te****le that is emerging from the water and one climbing the sail poll.

We also included many details that we hoped wouldn’t go unnoticed such as the rusted anchor, a window and the wheel made of bones.

The sinking ship was decorated with fake moss, barnacles and seashells. The table was littered with Golden dabloons, featuring a skull with a crow on top, bottles of poison, a treasure chest with mermaid tears spilling out of it and a pirates map.

One of the best additions to the booth was the One Piece wanted poster which allowed us to interact with so many different people.”
