“Can we have a few photos looking at the camera?” 👀✨
As a documentary wedding photographer, I get this question a lot! And the answer is—absolutely! But here’s why I usually avoid it during the storytelling part of the day:
In documentary photography, we aim to capture moments as they naturally unfold, keeping the emotion and atmosphere authentic. This means avoiding “breaking the 4th wall”—a term from theater and film that refers to when characters acknowledge the audience, pulling them out of the story. In wedding photography, that means keeping things immersive, so your gallery feels like a beautiful, cinematic memory rather than a posed photoshoot.
But don’t worry! When it’s time for portraits, anything goes. I love making those shots feel modern and editorial—something that wouldn’t look out of place in a magazine. So whether you want candid storytelling or striking, fashion-forward portraits, I’ve got you covered! 🤍📷
